Well I did it. After spending over $1200 on gasoline last month I finally realized that a new Prius would be free. Meaning I would save enough in fuel to make the payment plus some. I bought a 2008 black on black package 6 car for $600 under sticker. So far 300 miles at 50.1 mpg. I have never owned a foreign car before but the fuel saved by commuting in this thing helps when cruising on summer weekends in my gas hog. I look forward to sharing stories and learning more about these great cars.
Welcome to PriusChat, 67GT500#2100! Your name is so mellifluous... I was looking at GM's fuel efficiency comparison web site and I figured that gas would have to go to $9.33 a gallon for fuel for a Prius to cost as much as it does today for a Hummer at $3.15 a gallon. It's the smartest car on the road for its class.
Thanks Bills, I am a moderator at ShelbyForums.com and I like to use the same screen name on each site I go to in case some here might recognize me. The Prius definetly is the smartest car on the road and has enough room for my wife and 3 small kids. I really like it so far. Some think a guy into muscle cars can't fit in over here but I honestly love my old cars and have fallen in love quickly with this marvel! Can't wait to start asking the experts questions and learning all I can.
@ $3 per gal. @ 15 MPG = 6,000 a month? @ $3 per gal. @ 20 MPG = 8,000 a month? @ $3.5 per gal @ 20 MPG = 6,860 a month? No matter how you figure it, that's a lot of miles The Prius won't be free, it will be Paying You. Welcome
Welcome to the forum 67GT500#2100 . We all know that gas prices will go up by this summer. Expect to pay $4.00/ gallon in the next few months. You made the right move. I am glad I also did three months ago. Congrats on the new Prius.
My truck is a F250 crew cab Diesel. About 16 miles a gallon and diesel around here is $3.70 a gallon. My wife has an Expedition, also 16 miles per gallon. So only a little over 5000 miles a month. I work 2nd shift and I get home about 15 minutes before my wife leaves for her 3rd shift job. So now we can both drive the Prius! Over 3000 of those miles are just us two going to and from work. With the holidays we did travel a little more than normal but an average month on the gas card is $1000 up to last months peak of $1200. So you can see that not many people needed one of these cars as much as I do.
A black Prius in Michigan? I'll keep an eye out for you when I am in Ann Arbor. My brother lives just south of town off Platt Road.
