    Hi All

Looking forward to taking delivery of my Prius 2003 gen II in the next few weeks.

Managed to borrow one for the weekend and put it through its paces. Amazing cars!

Japanese import so everything will be in Japanese! Could make life interesting .. maybe I'll have to learn the language:)

Congratulations, I am sure you will enjoy your new Prius. Maybe you can find an owner's manual written in english on ebay. Sometimes I set my MFD screen on spanish or french just for fun, however that wouldn't be as different Japanese.

Welcome to PriusChat, martin2nz! Are there Prius dealers in NZ yet? By all means, try to get a manual you can read. And PriusChat is full of information. Ask questions you can't find answers for!

Thankfully "direct air towards honourable feet" is spelt using pictograms; so most of the display is usable, even if it isn't readable :)
Once you learn which set of ideograms controls "climate" and which is "audio", you should be good to go. Of course, I chickened out and got a NZ-new model which is English from the start. No Spanish. Or French.

    :welcome:

Good to see another kiwi liberating a Prius for local use ;)

Welcome Martin2. This is a great forum for all things Prius. I only joined a few days ago (also on Newbies) but it's a great info source.

For an English manual you could do worse than try this source, very comprehensive and understandable too :

    John's Stuff - Toyota Prius User-Guide

Have fun with your Prius when you get it and see you around on here

Also try the English-speaking Priuschat members in Japan. They seem to be great people (as most Prius owners seem to be).

Is it true that in Australia and New Zealand that the wheels on the MFD turn counterclockwise instead of clockwise? :D

    Greetings and welcome.

What's the "Prius 2003 Gen II" that you're buying?

Is that what is also called the Classic Prius (a 4 door sedan)?

Or is it the current Prius (a 5-door hatchback)?

The reason why I ask is that usage of the "Gen" designation varies.

Most people here refer to the Classic Prius as Gen I and the current Prius as Gen II.

Others call the Classic Prius that was first introduced in Japan as Gen I, the Classic Prius that was subsequently introduced outside Japan as Gen II, and the current Prius as Gen III.

Most of what I've seen over here calls the Japanese-only variant (several of which have appeared over here, but that's another tale) the Gen I, so I understood this to be the Gen II - the more "normal looking" (mundane looking?) version as opposed to the 2004+ model, "Gen III"

Forgot to mention in my last post, I've seen one mostly-Prius dealership in Auckland, The Green Car Company; who import second hand Prius and other Electric / Hybrid cars.
Otherwise, dealerships have new ones at full sticker or close to it.

    I wanna see a Gen IV :D

I haven't paid attention to which way the wheels spin (but the ones at the top of the screen have one less spoke than those at the bottom!), as I'm usually watching the other consumption screen. Shorter bars are better down here! (Litres per 100km instead of km/L or m/g)

    Mine too.
Here's a pic of the service screen from mine, with some translation.
