Just click on the "this thread" hyperlink in my post above. Be warned, this is about 11 or 12 pages long and includes lots of posts relating to the extended warranty plans - not much about the worth of the prepaid maintenance, since most folks haven't had their cars long enough to make use of it.

Ultimately, you need to assess for yourself about how much each scheduled maintenance will cost. The 5K and 10K jobs should be relatively inexpensive, since it's basically an oil change and tire rotation, but usually the 15K multiples involve more work. Also, since the maintenance schedule calls for "checking" various fluid levels, etc., you might have to make some judgements on how much labor would be involved and how much your dealer would charge for that labor. It's probably a good idea to call the dealer you plan to use for service and inquire as to the estimated cost of each of the various maintenance sessions based on the Toyota recommended services. Then you can see if the prepaid maintenance is really a good deal.

 

Also keep in mind that some dealerships still incorrectly mark the sticker after the oil change stating the car needs another change in 3,000 miles instead of 5,000. They aren't used to the Prius yet. It really freaks them out when they learn the first oil change isn't due for the first 7,000 miles. Those extra oil changes are money in their pocket...

 

Actually, Toyota has oil changes at 5K for most of their vehicles now, not just 2nd gen prius. Toyota had the oil change interval at 7.5K for classic. Many technicians, not just Toyota techs, recommend oil changes at 3K despite what Toyota or even Consumers Reports recommends, though doing oil changes at 5K won't hurt your warranty.

At 15K, that too requires little more than oil change and tire rotation, maybe brake check/clean, and a bit more indepth inspection. At 30K, you are supposed to change both air filters, engine and cabin.

At 55K maintenance package, that's 11 intervals. Average cost at the discount price is $66.50 For the Prius, sounds a bit high. Definitely won't do it for $1K. The real biggie is 100K maintenance, as coolants are to be changed. It's a bit more complex than the avg car, esp for the inverter. Changing plugs is no big deal, they are easily gotten to from the top, and that's at 120K.
