I have an early (11/03) 2004 Prius that is is in the VIN range for both updates. But, the gas gauge is reasonably accurate and I can get from 6.8 to 7.4 gallons with in the tank two bars showing. Is there any reason to subject my car and I to the hassle of getting the work done? thanks
I say no way...you're doing better than I am with 1 bar showing. With one bar flashing I'm in the 7-9 gallon range. Just not worth it at all IMO
:? Hi Tickwood - you young thing! :stupid: My Prius was built about the same time as yours and I tend to agree with Evan (at least for now). The involved disassembly/reassembly makes me nervous particularly since I can't confirm that my nearest dealer has ever done this TSB and I don't want to be their 'training experience.' Since we have until 3 yrs/36,000 miles to have this done, I believe I will wait awhile. It's not a real sacrifice to fill the tank at 320± miles. AGE: Perhaps we should have an 'oldest Prius driver' contest... I have you beat by 11 years.
Mine was manuf. 09/03. I recently had the update done. What I've noticed is that the gauge seems to linger longer in the 2 bar range before dropping to 1. Before, it'd stay quite a while at 3 bars, then quickly go to to and then 1 flashing. As for the filler neck, it's not much better - and we lost the vapor seal at the top. The new design does make it easier to nurse it full though if you're so inclined w/o the infamous spurt-back. I probably would have been okay w/ just the gauge update as the new neck, while better, still isn't anything like the classic's filling performance.
How do you all know the mfg dates of your cars?? the last of my vin is 98060... where is a date in that... :jester: Bob Andersen
Hi BobA ! The top line of the metal door post tag on your Prius will read something like: MFD. BY: TOYOTA MOTOR COPORATION 09/03 The "09/03" indicates (in my case) that my Prius was manufactured in September 2003. That's the easy way to determine the month & year of manufacture. This tag also contains your VIN number and codes indicating the paint and interior colors, etc.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(BobA\";p=\"58478)</div> Your car, Bob, was manufactured in June (06) of 1998. Must have been sitting around for a while.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(TonyPSchaefer\";p=\"58486)</div> Thanks, Tony... must be why I got such-a-deal.. and received it 57 days after I ordered it.. Thank you Charles... I guess I've never looked at the tags in any car... when it came time to register my 1951 Ford pickup.. which is really a 1977 Oldsmobile with Ford skin... the state said I just had to show the inspector the VIN... ya-sure-ya-betcha... as the frame was chopped and the VIN was long gone, I found a big hammer and a set of numbers... the first tries on the frame didn't work.. so I put a tin plate on the firewall.. that was what I took to the inspection... the young lady inspector only asked if I knew the number and wrote it on the form... but I did loose some sleep..
