I wanted to thank Troy and his staff for such excellent service in my warranty purchase.

I was able to fax my information which saved tons of time.

I received my official warranty card and documents from Toyota Corp within 2 weeks !!!

I would recommend this route to anyone.

Is the extended warranty listed on Priuschat as a members benefit still available? Four more years would make it about 250 per year for coverage but it could be well worth it at least for the peace of mind. Does anyone know if you need that extended warranty that you would be required to have it towed (their expense ) to the nearest dealership. That would be a nightmare. The Prius and other Toyotas are far superior to the quality of the dealerhips selling them.

I purchase an extended warranty and prepaid maintenance contract through Troy Dietrich. It was a great deal and a wonderful service experience. Purchase with full confidence.

I've tried searching this thread but didn't find an answer to my question. 800 postings are a lot to scan, even for an avid reader like myself. My dealer offerd the extended Platinum warranty for $1300. The attractiveness of this warranty is that it is completely refundable if it is never used. Yes, I know that means we might play the game of "Do I pay for this $300 repair now and get the $!300 back later?", etc. Is the warranty offered by Troy 100% refundable at the end of 7 years if it is never used?

Just to set the record straight, WarrantyDirect is just the latest version of the corporation that went bankrupt and dropped car warranties on a lot of people. They may be ok now, maybe, but I wouldn't trust them, will only buy factory warranties from now on.

I was not able to get a quote going through the link but does Troy or anyone offer any of the lesser toyota warranties (the ones below platinum level)? I have a base Prius and was interested in a powertrain-only warranty if available for purchase. Something in the $700 range with no deductible or a lower priced plan with a deductible if those are options for 7yr/100K or similar.

    Danny,

I recently purchased a used 2005 Prius with 20K miles which is still under warranty until May. Am I elligible to purchase the Platinum extended warranty ?

    Thanks,

I read on the Clark Howard website not to buy third party extended warranties. Is the ext. warranty offered here good when you need work done? Do the Toyota dealership service shops honor it with no problem?

I just got a 2008 and bought the dealer warranty for a whopping $2700. + tax. I think I hold the record so far.

FYI Geico insurance has mechanical break down coverage which looks interesting but they gave me a high quote on the regular insurance. I am looking forward to getting my warranty here. This looks like a great site! I need to get used to it though, hope I haven't been redundant. Thanks

How many forum readers can post that they have a prius that has actually needed >$1000 worth of repairs that would have been covered by a warranty? PLease post whether you actually bought the warranty or not.

I have 2 toyotas and 1 subaru (and a prius for delivery in 2 weeks), and with those cars and about 310,000 total miles between them, I haven't spent one single penny on repairs prior to 100,000 miles. Remember, with any insurance the odds are you'll loose money...

Regarding the 7/100,000 platinum warranty from Troy, what happens if you total your car in three years? There is no relief? It sounds like I should wait until just before 36000 miles before buying this warranty?

The warranty offered through PriusChat and WarrantyShack is the actual Toyota extended service plan - it's not a 3rd party plan. It is the exact same thing you just paid $2,700 for. All Toyota dealerships honor the warranty.

    arf1410,
You got a point there. Toyota and Honda are typically more reliable than others, but their vehicles are not problem-proof either. Maybe you have been as lucky as I have been with our vehicles. Consider this, the MFD alone will cost about $700 to replaced.
It has been known to be a problematic area of Prius. With more and more gadgets on modern vehicles, it is more and more likely to have something fail within 75K or 100K
miles. For example, an ABS unit will cost you $2000.
Ext warranty is just like insurance. If you think you can handle the unexpected repair cost, then, you obviously don't need to buy one. The cost is $696 (7yr/75K) just because it IS a Toyota. I have been shopping ext warranty for my Mazda CX-9. The best I could find on the web (genuine warranty also) is $1410. For the same plan of a BMW 540iA, it was $2450 (if I remembered correctly) 10 years ago.

And, yes, I recovered all my cost of $2450 from numerous repair of my BMW...... I even saved about $500 overall to cover the interest.

I just returned my $2700. plus sales tax warranty to the dealer within the window they allowed me to make up my mind. They had me sighn a form to get my money back, however didn't include the sales tax. I had to request that separately. I wouldn't have got it if I hadn't caught it. They wrote me a separate check to cover the sales tax. I am still waiting for the $2700.00. This was the end of Jan. 2008 when I bought my 08 Prius.

It was a the kind where you get a full refund (minus the tax) if you don't ever use it. Also If I sold the car or just plain forgot to request the refund by the deadline I wouldn't get it. Too many conditions.

:DThank you PRIUSCHAT.com members for saving me a small fortune!

Just received my quote from Troy - $490 vs. $1300 from MY dealer (whom I hate and woldn't recommend BTW) and if I hadn't done it in their "window" it would have cost me $2500.

I'm so glad I found this forum! It's really helped me already and I've only had my Prius for a week! I learned the "Secret" "connect" menu on my phone and my husband's phone to make the bluetooth work and I have also saved a lot of $!!

BTW, my dealer is Westbury Toyota... what an expereince.
