Looks like the Dice HD adapter is going to start shipping on the 27th of November according to their web site. List price is $199.99. Any chance anyone can organize a group purchase? Dice HD Radio Website
HD radio can be very sweet. I put an aftermarket head unit in a 2006 Highlander a few months ago (JVC- HDR1). The difference between HD and non-HD is very noticeable. I listen to a jazz station that is about 30 miles away and w/o HD, static can be a problem, but when HD locks in the static is gone . . . I will certainly be looking into the DICE unit for my new Prius. Does DICE have a good reputation for their products and support?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(cadriver1 @ Nov 20 2006, 08:31 PM) </div> The DICE iPod integration box, at least for the 2006, is very buggy and random in its operation. Support is still in question. When I told them of my problems, they acted as if I were the first person to notice them although I knew that several others had complained of the same things. It's still an ongoing story.
i'd definitely wait a few months after release to let them sort out all the bugs... I'm still regretting not spending the extra few bucks for the Vais unit over the Dice (iPod integration)
I agree with others. I had the original ICElus iPod integration kit. ICE later changed their name to DICE. ICElus is so buggy that it won't even play anything many of the times. To reset it, you have to either pull a fuse (lose all the memory like clock, radio stations, etc.) or pull apart the dash and disconnect the power cable to the unit. After they come out with DICE, I email/call them to ask for an exchange. After numerous email exchanges, they finally agree to replace the buggy ICElus and ask me to call their sales for an RMA number. Then I have to go through the same thing on the phone with them to obtain the RMA. Even though the DICE iPod kit works, it was not a good experience.
I've heard lots of bad things about the old ICE units and the beta test Dice units, but in general people on this web site have reported that the production version of the Dice ipod adapters have been pretty good. I had one on my 2005 Prius (which I just traded in) and never had a problem with it. I'll hang out for a bit and see if a group buy gets organized, but as of now this is the only game in town for an integrated HD radio. (Being able to use the steering wheel buttons and stock display is a big deal to me. )
I never researched what Steve-FM was talking about when they said they did HD. Of course, I never researched why the play-what-WE-want stations like Steve or Dave existed in the first place. Rock plus bad isn't all that great, but the bad isn't too often...
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(narf @ Nov 20 2006, 05:39 PM) </div> I'm definitely interested in being a part of any group buy if people are still interested in setting that up. I have Sirius in my other car, but I'd like to try HD in the Prius. I'd also love to hear from anyone that's tried the DICE adapter. Thanks and Happy Holidays!
I have a HD unit currently in transit for me to test and review for DICE. After my review of it, if it works up to it's capabilities, we'll put together a Group Buy for it. Hopefully you'll see my review next week!
Does anyone know if the Dice HD will work with the Dice iPod unit ? Dice would first have to get the iPod unit working correctly with the 06 before I'd buy anything else from them, but it's an interesting idea having more options. Ken
I already asked DICE that question in email. Their answer is yes, HD with work with their iPod kit. When I tried to ask more detail info about installation, they didn't respond.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(ScottY @ Dec 21 2006, 12:21 PM) </div> Actually, it's quite cooler than that. 1 box does both. So basicly, you'll be replacing your iPod box with the new, dual function box.
Hmmm a box that does both ? Anyone want to buy a hardly used iPod interface that hardly works ? Maybe Dice can make up for their buggy iPod interface by offering to swap out our non-working units for the new dual units and a bit of cash. Ken
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Danny @ Dec 21 2006, 10:04 AM) </div> Danny, any update on this?
OK, so I am looking at my options for IPod and HD for my 2008 Package #2 Prius.... I am a bit concerned that PriusChat had at one point sold the DICE Ipod/HD units, but is no longer selling them. Are there any issues there?? It seems that Coastaltech is out of stock and while it appears that VaisTech has a more solid Ipod interface, it doesn't have HD.... Is the DICE unit the only combined HD/IPod interface? Thanks, Jeff
I asked the same question of the PriusShop folks. Got the following response. I'd like to see a Silverline integrated with the HD. I think I'd be pretty much set. I just can't bring myself to pay $13/month for radio. David
My HD DICE unit just quit on me after about a year. I just submitted a ticket on their site so I am awaiting their response.
As anticipated there has been no response, I think I have given enough time. It looks like I will be removing it.
