My wife and I are getting tired of hearing from our dealer (Yokem Toyota in Shreveport, LA) that they have no ability to "order" a Prius without the "Extra Mile" package. (This is apparently a function of the Gulf States distributor.) So we're considering ordering a Prius from out of state. If you have had a Prius shipped, I'd love to hear how it went. Any warnings or suggestions on making the transaction go smoothly? Were there any concerns about not being able to see your Prius? Thanks, Mark
Mark, Alot of dealers have retired couples who love to drive. So alot of dealers will deliver your Prius for an extra charge. I live in eastern Pa. and bouth froma dealer in Morgantown, Wv. A couple of retired gents brought me my car and rode back in one of the dealers cars. I was 6 hours from the dealer and they charge me $200. I thought that was fair. While we were doing the paperwork, he told me they just came back from Oklahoma( a 2 day trip) and that they take Prius's all over the place. So this is another option you can check into
I had mine shipped from Cali to Dallas (Mesquite) by Dependable Auto Shippers (dasautoshipping.com). It was about 750.00 and It seemed to be trouble free.
I'm in NJ. I bought from a dealer in Northern WI, about 1,300 miles distant. I contacted Dependable Auto Shippers; they wanted $1,200. The dealer suggested a retired mailman whom the dealer had previously used. The mailman phoned me, we agreed on $450, and he drove to Newark Airport where I met him. It all worked out very well. I did have some concerns but during the phone conversation, I got a good feeling about the reliability of the driver.
