I havn't posted here in a while, since i've been depressed over an overspray issue with my relatively new (was 2 months old at the time, now over 6), so since my memory's foggy I came back with a question. I remember reading everyone mentioning at one point last summer that the upgrade for tires of choice was a specific Michelin tire. But damn for the life of me I cannot remember. Searches come out too open with results. Someone help? Point to somewhere that I might have seen a ton of people saying yes to said tire? It was as clear as day that it was the best choice, like 42/40.
I'm pretty happy with the Harmony's on my Prius. Very quiet and smooth riding, reasonably safe in the rain. Not a snow tire by any stretch of the imagination, but not a huge concern in Florida
I wonder if it was the one linked below - it seems the most rah-rah Michelin. I read the different tire threads thoroughly before I made my decision - Hydroedge - although my decision was greatly influenced by Costco's recent sale and what they would actually put on my car. $420 out the door. I went with the Goodyear Assurance Tripletread and have been very happy. Some folks also switch to the 195/60/15 size for an improvement in handling. See the attached link for ratings by Tire Rack. Consumer Survey Results By Category
There is a relatively new Michelin tire, the Primacy MXV4, that is all the rage right now in certain circles; that is perhaps the one you are thinking of. It is the successor to the venerable Energy MXV4 tires, which are being discontinued. I had these installed on my Prius two weeks ago, and they have absolutely transformed the car. They are much better than the Energy's, and have a better tread life warranty (60,000 mi). I'd say they are the best set of tires I have ever had. They ride quiet and corner incredibly well. Light snow traction seems very good from what I can tell so far. I stepped up to the 205/60 size myself. It also comes in 185/65, 195/60, and 195/65. H- and/or V- speed rating depending on size. They are a little expensive, but this is a premium tire with good tread life, so you get what you pay for. You can read about it at Tirerack.

Right! They wear like granit ... Costco discounts them once or twice a year, they have a great warranty, and they have one of the lowest rolling resistence numbers. We love ours, and after appx 40K miles, they hardly look like they're wearing.
They don't hurt fuel efficiency, in my experience. And if you can corner faster, you can conserve your momentum better and actually improve it!
I just had 4 185/65R Michelin Hydro Edge tires installed on our 2006 Prius. To early to tell you about the MPG effect but the ride is amazing. These tires have totally transformed the car. I can't wait for the tires on our '08 to wear out so I can change these over too. Maybe my wife wouldn't notice if I swapped out her tires?
It's great, Hill, that you can get that much use from the tires. I brought my 2006 in for its 30 K check (actually at 29.5 K) and my original Goodyears were pretty much worn out. This dealer (like many others, I'm sure) replaces them for free as long as you buy an alignment and have had your service done there. So for a few bucks, I'll go with the Goodyears again.
