Have you actually compressed the file?

I tried with WinRAR and gave up. At well over an hour, I hadn't even hit the 20% mark using the "best" mode.

 

I see what I did wrong. I divided by 3KB, rather than 300KB. Doh! I figured I was off by at least a factor of 10.

 

No biggie. I mean, what's a few hundred hours, more or less? :lol:

 

Yes. I don't recall how long it took, but I let it run overnight.

 

I'll try that later tonight.

BTW, which mode did you use. I noticed WinRAR has several and assumed "best" would provide the greatest amount of compression.

 

I ran PkZip and the zipped file came out about the same size and it took considerably less time than WinRAR (a little over an hour).

$20 for a DVD+R9? You might want to check Best Buy. I just picked up a 3-pack a few days ago. It was around $30 ($10/each). Still, waaaay too much dough to be doing, well, a lot of anything. :wink:

I upgraded to 4.2 yesterday (the dealer claims this is the latest...). In any case, 4.2 has much more detail for northern NV!

I received the upgrade about a week ago. Tonight is the first time I have tried to use it. It is FAR WORSE in terms of operation. Am I the only one noticing? From my driveway and for about 3 blocks (3 different streets), it did not notice I was on the route and would not give verbal instructions. Since I drive this 3 blocks all the time, I know for a fact that this is a new and worse behavior. Then, I failed to turn when Priuscilla instructed me to do so, and it NEVER recalculated the route. I had to figure out how to get back to the wrong turn, which took several minutes. I have the NAV system because I am visually impaired and cannot read street signs. I NEED the voice instructions to work and the route to recalculate. Has anyone else had a problem? Can I downgrade? Who should I call? I am going in for the brake light recall tomorrow, so I will ask Toyota. I have a bad feeling I'm just hosed... I could not locate any complaints on this forum either.

 

OK, I know this isn't part of the thread proper, but let me address the vision thing first because most people are not aware of the laws. They vary from state to state, but it is not a problem for me to drive and my vision is not even close to the legal limit that would prevent me from driving legally. I cannot read street signs but can see highway signs just fine. There are many people that are able to drive legally and safely without 20/20 vision. My vision cannot be further corrected, and the state of CA, as well as all of my doctors, are very aware of my current vision and they provide written information to the DMV stating the terms of my vision, etc. This is the vision I have always had. If it were a new condition I am not sure I would want to drive, but I am a safe driver and am able to see cars, pedestrians, etc. without a problem. I can see street signs and can sometimes read them, but not while driving (since I don't have time to look that carefully). I have had a legal license in 3 states and have been driving for 28 years without an accident.

OK, back to the real subject - I will be testing the problem more this week and will schedule a service appt with Toyota. They want the car all day and will give me a loaner. I notice that the NAV system is more accurate in determining arrival to destination. It also reroutes correctly in the middle of the route but has this problem at the endpoint. I haven't had the opportunity to fine tune the testing, but I will do that before scheduling the appointment. I am hoping to find a route near the Toyota place that will demonstrate the problem.

 

I just got my update today 4.1 to 4.2. I had bee really happy with 4.1 and thought that 4.2 would be evern better. Well, it has lost it's mind. I live in a geted community with no connecting streets except for the gate. 4.1 knew that and directed my correctly. 4.2 would have me going through all kinds of streets that don't connect (not even the same names) and through fences or walls. This is as bad as MapQuest and YahooMaps. I had been so proud of how smart my car was before..... Isn't there a way to 'teach' it the right way?

I have a call into the dealer. Might have to down grade. I was not given the DVDs so I'll have to go in.
