All it takes is some rudimentary knowledge of UBB code.

1) Locate the Address (URL) of the image you wish to post (right click on the image and select Properties to display its address).

2) Copy the address to the clipboard.

3) In the body of the post where you wish the icon to appear, type without any spaces between the square brackets and the URL.

I went to the dealer in Olympia today and among other things asked about recalls, both the Nav and the Brake light. They had info of the on the Nav but had no clue on the Brake ( it was in the Wall Street Journal on Friday). The service manager moaned about that one, he said Toyota puts out a press release and he gets the info a few weeks later. The calls comes sooner. The Olympia dealer will require 2 visits one to confirm that you are in the recall ( he did not know how to get the version number on the touch screen, I had to do that for him, he did know how to find the VIN number). I am not planning to get my Nav disk until the 10k service. He said I could tell the person I am scheduling with that I had him check that I was eligible, we shall see. I am not impressed since I called for my 5k service and the person told me I did not need tire rotation. Apparently this dealer recommends rotating the tires at 10k intervals in 04 and >. I don't understand how the dealers make these decisions. I told the service manager that I would follow the recommendations of the engineers who designed the car at this point. He was polite and promised to change the "script" the people answering the phone will use.

The tire warranty I received with the 05 requires that the dealer rotates the tires every 5000 miles, or the warranty is voided. I accept that this is a marketing ploy to get the owner into the shop every 5000 miles. But with the warranty paying 100% of the replacement cost of the tires for 100,000 miles unconditionally...I'll play their silly game. 8)

Yes, the 4.2 version includes CA-56. I don't use the Nav system much, but I did have the map on during the ride home from the dealership and remember it being a little squirrelly, but then, so is the 56 with that weird jig between it and the 5.

 

Thanks, Pixie, for the update. I'll call my dealership to order a DVD. I don't use the Nav often either. My MFD is usually showing the comsumption screen most of the time.

Painless here.

My dealer didn't require anything from me (though they must have my VIN on file), and just handed me the disc. I installed it myself, and plan to fling my v3.1 into the wilds of Ebay.

 

well the tech going to do the paper work to get the DVD last monday... go in today.. no DVD... and they have not got a clue when they well get them in...

A real bummer as I was hoping to test it out on my trip out to New Mexico... oh well maybe it will come in by Thur..

Why oh why... didn't toyota create a online interface the owner to use... they were going by vin anyway.. We go online... enter the data.. they send dvd to the owner... and for those that want the dealer to install.. so be it... have the dealer order...

I want my DVD update... now is there an ISO image anywhere or know how I could get one quicker??

 

Assuming there, in fact, is such an image, the issue becomes one of transferring a circa 8GB file.

Have nav in car... have letter from toyota saying I can have upgrade.. just don't want to wait a "Prius Time" to get it...

"Prius Time" length of time no sane person would wait for an object (i.e. like being on a list to pruchase a Prius)

 

Got it. Good on your end. But it's still an issue if the file doesn't reside on a ftp server somewhere, right? For example, what if an ISP caps rates at 256 or 384 kbps?

 

you are very correct.. now there are come cable systems that have 1500+. But the correct solution has to come from the Toyota end...

even at 1500+ it would be a while... but as lots of computers are on 27/7 connected...

Cablemodems at 3Mbit, aproximate to 300Kbyte, esp if you consider packet overhead.

8GByte/300KByte=2.66Mseconds or about 740 hours, or 30 days. OK, my math doesn't sound right.

Even with a 100Mb LAN (which is typical, 1Gb is popular, but not all consumer routers/switches have it yet), you are talking a LONG time.

 

Well, I don't know from math but I did find a download calculator on the internet and plugged in some numbers. Here's what I got for an 8GB file:

128k ISDN (or slow DSL/Cable): 165.7 hrs
DSL (1.5Mbps): 12.8 hrs
Cable (3.0Mbps): 6.7 hrs


So, basically, we all seem to be on the same page.........transferring a file of this size is not really practical.

The ISO image of the NAV 4.2 disk is 7.58 gb. Compressed to a RAR file, it is 2.74 gb.
