Plastic Wheel Rims

Just grab the inside of the ring toward the center of the tire and pull firmly with your fingertips. The inside of the ring is closer to the spring clips, so it will pop off with less distortion than pulling or prying from the outside of the ring.

On the touring model, if you pull off the plastic hub caps, the hubs are empty and you can see the bolt, threads, etc.

How did you fill those in on the pictures above? The plastic hub caps have them attached and they cannot be removed. I am curious as the plastic hub caps are coming off later this week if the emblem plugs I ordered are indeed correct.

It really depends on what's underneath -- the wheels pictured in this thread are Chinese, aka "Ug Lee". Better covered up. However, on our 2007 the plastic covers are over a mag wheel that is far better looking in my opinion.

 

Touring Edition Rims vs Standard Edition Rims

Charles,

On a recent icey night in Chicago I slid into curb being stopped only by my front Drivers side wheel hitting the curb as I slid sideways. When I took it to the dealership to have the alignment corrected they said it was necessary to purchase a new rim for $425 before they could do the alignment. I've been looking online and see Prius Rims for as little as $50 but it appears that they are different from the rims used for the Touring Edition.

The photos posted by Charles Smith were the only thing that helped me determine this as it appears that there is a circular inset in the center of the wheel that surrounds all of the lug nuts.

Can anyone confirm that the Touring Edition wheels are indeed different from the Standard edition wheels?

Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide.

Isn't the Touring Edition rims 16" where the standard Prius has 15" rims. Also I thought the Touring Edition has 7 spoke steel rims and the 15" rims have 6 spoke steel rims.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

 

Yes, they are different sizes (16" vs 15") as laskint mentions.

Check eBay, there seems to be a good number of them up there.

 

Touring Edition Rims - Happy Ending

So there is a happy ending to this terrible and costly incident. I posted a message on a website that distributes the need for a part out to several parts dealers, junk yards etc. Mike from Route 65 Auto promptly contacted me by phone and e-mail. He was very curteous, prossional, up front and honest with me over the phone. I felt comfortable paying for the new rim over the phone. He shipped in from Pennsylvania to Chicago in 2 days and the price was less than half that of the dealer including shipping. Mike's service and the quality of the replacement rim have made me very happy. I intend to order another one to replace the rim my Fiance scratched rubbing the curb in a Fast Food Drive through. Prius Touring in magnetic Grey with 16 inch tires. Ordered the $13 each Toyota wheel center caps from the dealer in Firestone/Longmont Colorado, recieved them two days later, pulled the plastic hubcaps. 10 minutes later all the new center caps are installed. It looks great, especially in magnetic grey, the painted wheels almost match the magnetic grey car paint. Looks sportier and at a minimum it looks different then all the other Prius's. Had many positive comments. The dealer wanted never heard of this, they wanted to see the car, they liked it. Easy cheapo mod.

PS I live near Denver, the Prius has no problems climbing long steep high altitude mountain passes in Colorado, can easily and quickly accelerate to pass. 40mpg up the hills, 100mpg plus on the way down. Put the cruise control on and the speed never varied climbing sttep mountain passes. Handles weel in blizzard condtions, the HID lights are the best thing since sliced bread... The Prius is a great car.

guys... i'm new here, will get my prius back tmr from my EX..... how would the wheels look with out the wheel rims for a base model? Any one have any pics of that??

 

I'm in the same boat as some of the other fellows here.
I would like to remove these trim rings and leave them off. The War Department wants them left on and since it is HER primary car, she wins.

I would advise that these trim rings be taken off whenever you wash the car. You'd be surprised at the gunk and brake dust the builds up under them! They're easy enough to take off and put back on again, so to save some aggravation down the line of really nasty looking rims, mine will come off regularly for cleaning.
