£17,500 is the price at the dealer for the car, metalic paint is extra, about £350, 1st registration is only £25ish. Remember we get as standard items that you consider extras.

Help! Can someone describe (1)intelligent parking, (2) TV tuner, (3) HID (high intensity dimmer? high intensity what?), and (4) MD player (is that like a Mp3 disc player?????

    Educate me! THANKS!

I enjoy everything you all tell me-- even the jokes!

    I'll give it a shot:

    1) Intelligent parking is a feature that allows the Prius to parallel park by itself. Not sure how it works, or how well it works. I saw it demo'd on TV once and it looked slick.

    2) TV Tuner lets you watch TV on the NAV screen.

    3) High Intensity Discharge headlights. Just brighter headlights, somewhat like Xenon headlights.

    4) MD Player is a mini-disc player. Plays those small proprietary discs that Sony makes. They are big in Japan, but didn't do much in the states.

    Hope this helps. :)

EDIT: Ooops. Already explained well by the previous poster!

I'll be going to China (Beijing) in a couple of weeks. Does anyone know if Prii are sold there? I plan to look for a toyota dealership and see what goodies I can find! Will likewise look for Prius goodies in Hong Kong. My wife doesn't know what's on my shopping list...hee hee.

Thank you all- especially speedracer and dev! Yo-- they can watch TV in their cars! I'd like that capability too! That would be pretty nice..... I wonder why we did not get that "goodie" in the USA? And the smart parking is a nice feature, too.

Do some GM or other American cars have that parking feature? Lexus? Hmmm. Now those two above items would have been quite an addition to our sweet car.....

I appreciate all of your collective "smarts" and knowledge!!!!! :p

High Intensity Discharge - Xenon headlights with brighter blue-white light. Cost more to replace but last longer so the eventual replacement cost is considered to be on par with regular halogen headlights. They are on some of the U.S. packages - AM and BC for sure, don't know about others.
Here is a picture comparing the two from Consumer Reports:

Alarm is available as option (dealer installed) and comes in three levels: Basic, intra-sensor and extra sensor. Basic costs about EU400, each option sensor costs about EU100 extra. This goes for whole EU (UK might be excluded)

Many of the EU countries only sell the Executive (but without bluetooth and NavPak) as the only (and unnamed) model listed. I find that particularly nice.

However I would trade the EV button for the thermopack anytime.

Aren't there laws against a screen capable of playing movies within the driver's line of sight?

Also, I can't remember who said it but I think Toyota didn't include it in the NA Prius because people might sue them if the IPA hit another car (for e.g.). For those who hate pressing the "Agree" button on the Nav, umm... there are quite a number of screens to go through before the IPA will start moving the Prius into the parking space. Mostly warnings and stuff. I can't read it, it's in Japanese

For years, German auto makers refused to put cup holders in cars because they couldn’t understand why any sane person would want to drink while driving.

The US government now bans Television/VCR etc. from being visible within the driver's line of sight. The Germans must really think we are nuts! I somewhat agree, but I never could understand why car stereo makers don’t include TV sound! I hate rushing home to try to catch the beginning of a show! TV sound would be good enough to let me know what is going on till I get there. As for watching it while driving? I’d rather make it home safely.

We only get one package in Finland. The car is basically loaded with every option available except navigation. HIDs are not available. The price is a whopping 40000 euros, and no tax breaks etc are given.

Navigation is available in Finland. Price is 4000 euros! Xenon lights are not available in Finland/EU because if Xenon lights are installed then headlights must have high pressure washers.
