Please help me understand the mod options before I buy my car. I'm about to buy a 2008 prius and was debating between package 2 and package 5. The only reason I wanted pkg2 was for the Smart Key System, and the only reason I want pkg5 is for the navigation. all the other options are not that important to me. now, someone here just pointed me to the Ultimate Lockpick 3 from coastal etech and now I'm really confused. I left a message with the company, but based on feedback, I don't expect them to call me back So, I'm trying to figure out what this statement means: what does this mean? Say I got package two and did this "ultimate lockpick 3+" thing... could I plug in my video ipod or Garmin Nuvi 660 handheld GPS into some port and get the video on the MFD and audio in the car speakers? eg see the map & hear the directions or actually watch the movies. where's this port at on the prius? how would this work? what am i missing? The only reason I wanted to get the package 5 instead of the package 2 was because the aftermarket navigation systems don't integrate with the MFD.. they looked messy to me. but it sounds like lockpick gets around that? so, in my situation why would i still get a package 5 if this stuff is possible with package 2? again, the ONLY reason i'd get package 5 over 2 is for the nav system. do i need the "mp3" jack in the center console? any help is appreciated.
Toyota's map updates for the nav cost more than the aftermarket GPS unit that sticks to the windshield, dash, or cup holder and you're paying quite a bit for options you don't want. I prefer having a nav screen & the instantaneous data on the MFD in addition to taking my GPS with me or using it in another car. No opinion on the Lockpick.
thanks jim! just to clarify something you said here... does that comment mean that you can use a handheld gps and see the map info on the prius's MFD?? if so, where do you plug it in? is there a USB port?
If your GPS has a video output then yes with the LockPick you could display the video through the MFD. This is more dependent on your GPS then it is the LockPick as the LockPick gives you standard RCA cables and a DVD mode. It will display whatever is connected to the cables, and if your GPS can do that then it will display. I however agree with the original reply. I have both a third party GPS (Magellan) and the Prius GPS. I hate the added crap in the car that comes with the Magellan, when I am driving something other then the Prius. It looks so much cleaner and has so much less hassle. Not to mention that it interacts with limited voice commands so at times I can find what I need without ever touching the screen.
ok, cool.. i read your responses to my other threads/pm.. i get it now. we have a gamin nuvi 660, and I don't think it has video out. And when I say "we", i mean "my wife". a portable GPS is nice, but I really like the idea of having it all integrated on the prius MFD. you're referring to the prius MFD there, right?
My Garmin C320 usually runs on its own battery. When I have to charge it I do so through the center armrest. I'm not the electrician so I don't know how to get a GPS's display broadcast to the MFD. However, I wouldn't want this anyway. I want to see the map and the data on the MFD at the same time.
