I just got myself the 2008 Prius package #2 (Magnetic Gray; awesome color) this past weekend and am extremely satisfied so far..

.. with the exception of one thing: The MP3 CD loads sooooooo slowly.

Is this the case for everyone? Am I too impatient?

It depends on the number of files on the disk. The player has to catalog all the mp3s before it can populate the folder and playlist, so the more there is, the longer it takes. Try making a disk with fewer files and see if it loads faster. If it doesn't, then you might have a problem, but I'm guessing it's just a fat disk with lots of files.

I've noticed the same thing - sometimes I have a moment of panic because it takes a while for the player to recognize the disc.

And the whole "folder/file" wording is odd- I wish it said "track/album" instead.

I usually make full discs. That's really the point of having an MP3 CD player, right? Right now, I have a disc with about 10 albums and it fills up the CD's capacity. When I load them up searching through the folders or specific tracks within the folder, the screen just sorta' disappears. This is really disappointing.

I can go through each folder and track fine, BLIND. But with the monitor, I should be able to see each folder name and track name fairly readily, right?

Is this something I can send back to my dealership about?
