When I got my new Prius I also ordered all weather mats. Since the dealer did not have any in stock he had to order them. He warned me that the all weather mats cannot be used with the regular carpet mats becuase it becomes to thick and impears driving. I thought this was kind of wierd but I was wondering if anyone has ever heard anything about this or experienced it. You think it will be ok to use both the carpet and all weather mats? NOTE: I'm refering to the Toyota Prius all weather mats you get directly from the dealer. Not sure if they are the same one sold on this site.
its true, you have to remove the carpet mats. the all weather mats are thick. its worth getting it specially now on winter
They're ok. I have them on top of my carpet mats. There was a recall on the all-weather mats mostly because people were stupid and can't read instructions not to put them on top of carpets mats OR if they're like me who do it anyway, don't take responsibility when/if it interferes with the pedals. Mine can fit into the hooks (they're very tall hooks) and they don't interfere with the pedals even with my "sport" pedals on (Which extend the accelerator a few cms). So even I can't see how those people can claim unintended acceleration due to the mats. I feel bad for Toyota.
The OEM all weather mats are very thick so as to serve their purpose. What I did notice about them is how very well they fit when you use them to replace the carpet mats for the winter. They are high-quality and look quite nice in the car. My carpet mats are safely stored until "the ides of March" or some time there-abouts.
I just installed mine....its a "snug" fit, but they fit well over the carpet mats. I'm glad i got them!
Greetings - I just turned my stock ones over and swapped sides. They work fine that way but do tend to scoot 'forward' and you have to pull them back every so often. One word of advice, if you do this, be SURE you scoot them back. I didn't do that for a long time and the arm on the accelerator pedal made a groove in the back of the mat and the accelerator pedal was starting to stick. I assume that is basically the same 'problem' you can have by using the AW mats over the carpet mat. It's probably common knowledge here, but you can also flip the rear carpeted mat over and it fits fine. D
Hi All, There is a possibility that the all-weather mats will slide forward and hold the accellerator pedal down. There has been at least one Prius Chat post complaining of unintended accelleration where the driver traced the problem to having the all-weather mat on top of the standard mats. In that configuration, the little clips that fit into the holes in the mats do not reach the all-weather mats. With normal feet action of pushing the pedals forward, the mats were pushed up and up until they pushed on the accellerator pedal and held it down. Please use only one kind of mat, and connect it into the plastic hooks which prevent forward movement of the mat.
