I am a proud owner of a 2007 Prius and recently had my windows tinted all around, minus the windshield. I only put the front two windows down once since having them done and I have two very fine scracthes in the film already running from the top to the bottom of each window. I saw it on the passenger side first and thought there was something stuck in the door somewhere that scratched it, however the line is at the same D*MN place on the drivers side! So I am guessing there is something in these doors doing this.. Has anyone else experienced this at all with their tint? Thanks
On my 2005 my windows have been tinted for about a year. I roll them up and down a lot and haven't had any scratches.
No problem here either. I've had my 2006 Prius tinted for 4 months now. Window tints are still perfect. Vince.
I think when you get your tint done, you have to wait atleast 3 days before you can open the windows, or the windows will scratch..

Thanks!
My 2005 came with tinted windows. Both the front passenger and rear driver side tinting is scratched. The tinting also causes the windows to appear "foggy" at certain sunlight angles.
I can't comment about the foggy-ness but I do know that in my Mercedes, when window tint was installed, they also installed moleskin on the weather strip seals to prevent scratching of the tint. My wife just bought an 07 Prius and was going to get window tint installed soon.
Most new cars need to have a piece of felt or other material installed on the window seals. The scratches come from dirt that gets caught in the seals. This happened on my Acura TL. For BMW's and Mercedes, this is normally done automatically by Tint shops but for other cars, you have to ask to have this done for an extra charge. At least that is what my friend who owns an LA Tint shop told me.
I'm reading over and over that people have all their windows tinted. And in some of the photos being posted, the front windows are tinted as well. Living in California, what is the law on tinting the front windows? I'd love to get them even a bit darker, but I've heard from some that it's totally illegal to tint the front windows at all. Anyone from CA get their windows tinted and know what the deal is? Also, if you got them done in the West LA area, any recommendations for good, fairly inexpensive tinting?
That sounds like the problem unfortunately. THere is also some special cleaner for tinted windows with silicone and makes it slipperier so it doesn't scratch as easy. But if dust or sand settled in the edge of the window rubber inside, you are going to have scratches in pretty much any film. I have seen this happen even to the glass and film is way softer than glass.
