The gauge is nonlinear and the car will eventually need fuel :_> Don't make the n00b/old school mistake of trying to calculate how far you should be able to drive based on the reported MPGs and your estimate of how much gas is in the tank. When the last starts pip starts to flash it *might* go another hundred miles, or it might go another one, so you need to buy gas immediately.
I drunk the blue Prius koolaid, too. Mine is black with teinted windows. I love the dark blue but the dealer did not have one. I guess I will need to wash it a little more often than the guys with white Prius but I love mine and don't mind spending time washing it. I have package #5 with the bluetooth, it works great. And the Nav system is better than anyone I have see so far.
I still had about 4 "pips", but filled up today. 7.1 Gallons at about 360 miles. If the dealer filled it originally the same way I do, that would mean about 50.7 MPG. I am impressed. Thanx for your reply...
I am jealous of your color, You should be a special guest at our next event on 2/2/08 at Descanso Gardens, I'm itching to see a Spectra Blue in person !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nope, the fuel guage does not ever move much. I just recently drove from Sydney to Melbourne on a tank with some left over to drive around on. That trip is 995km. Best tank yet is 1012km and I put 44.7 litres in. That was sailing a bit close to the wind but I wanted to get the screen to show 1000km since last fill. (see photo)
That comes out to 55.74 MPG, if I do my math correctly... You were indeed running on fumes... I would love to visit there, but not sure where the bridge is that connects from the US to there and I refuse to fly (arms get too tired). I Suspect it would only take about 2 or 3 tanks to get across it, though..
I am actually averaging 48mpg (US) as my altime fuel burn. The only thing that knocks the consumption over 5 L/100km is short trips (under 10 minutes).
That actually sounds like fun! I may seriously do that! Need more info... email me at bardgal @ sbcglobal.net.
I love the Spectra Blue, but I won't get to buy a new car for at least another 5 years. Not that I don't love my Infiniti, but sometimes I'm jealous that I don't get to drive our Prius more.
