NOTICE: This works for the 2nd generation Prius. So far, we have no found a solution for European models.

To eliminate the beeps from seatbelts and reverse, follow these steps:

    1. Power on the car to IG-ON or READY. IG-ON will do for this purpose.
    2. Using the Trip/ODO button, set the Trip/ODO display to ODO (not Trip A or Trip B )
    3. Power off the car.
    4. Now power the car to READY (brake on). This is required so that step 6 works correctly.
    5. Within 6 seconds of powering on, press and hold the Trip/ODO button for 10 seconds or more (there is no indication... just count)
    6. WHILE STILL HOLDING ODO *after* the 10 seconds, shift the "gear" selector to R, then press the P button. Now release the Trip/ODO button.
    7. If the last step was successful, "b on" or "b off" should be displayed in the location where the Trip Odometer or Odometer is normally displayed (front dash area). "b on" is beep on (default), and "b off" is beep off.
    8. Press Trip/ODO to toggle the mode.
    9. Now power the car off to exit the toggle mode.
    10. Power the car on to READY and confirm the reverse beep status by shifting to R. The beep should not be audible if "b off" was selected, and should be audible if "b on" was selected..

Note: The Repair manual page states that if the the 12v battery is disconnected, the beep will reset to the default of on, and this procedure will need to be performed again - I have confirmed this to be true!. The repair manual also is not clear that Trip/ODO should remain depressed while shifting.

Additional Note: The driver and passenger seatbelt reminder chime can be disabled or enabled (respectively, defaults are driver on and passenger off) using similar steps. Instead of shifting from P to R to P in step 6, simply buckle then unbuckle the appropriate seatbelt while continuing to depress the Trip/ODO button. Might want a helper for this one!

I tried this twice on an 08 I just bought last night. It didn't work for me. Both times, after I release the trip/odo button (step6), the dash indicator just goes to TripA.
Does this not work for 08's ? Any suggestions ?

    Thanks,
    Floyd

Never mind Tideland I did it again, and got it to work.
The only thing I did different , was to look at the ODO area and see the b off /b on before I powered it off again. For some reason I must've read your instructions wrong.

    Thanks,
    Floyd

I forget, does a someone sitting in the front passenger seat cause both reverse beep, and seat belt alarm, set to off to not work or was it just the seat belt? I seem to recall someone stating that just having something heavy in the front passenger seat will do it.

I think having someone in the passenger seat for the reverse beep WON'T work but for the passenger seatbelt, you NEED someone in the passenger seat.

Do you have any way of activating beeps for door locking and unlocking. I have basic Prius. It does work with the Smart Key in Option One. Ed

By default, the car beeps and flashes the indicators when you lock/unlock the car. So someone must've turned it off for you.

In any case, you'll need to go to the dealer to activate the beep.

I do not get why they did not put the beep on the outside of the car?

Because it's a reminder to the driver and wasn't considered was a warning to others. People have done this by disabling the reverse beep and adding some sort of beeper in the back.

Thanks Tideland, it worked great on my 2008 touring also.
It's great to not hear that incessant beeping as I back up.

Does the Reverse Beep sound only inside the car, or can people around the car hear it like construction equipment?

My O5 has it disabled. If it only for the inside, I'll leave well enough alone.
I was disappointed that is was Disabled since we have a lot of young kids on bikes and big wheels on our street.

It took me about a dozen tries before I succeeded in getting the "b on/b off" to show up. I followed the instructions exactly but couldn't get anything but the "Trip A" to display. What finally helped me was to take my foot off the brake when going from reverse to park. Maybe this tip will help others.

Thanks everyone for the instructions. I'm enjoying the silence.

To all: You're very welcome but I didn't find this. IIRC, I saved it from efusco's KB thread from the old PriusChat so he should get credit for it.
