i have read through a ton of pages, but i have not read anything about changing the factory screen (i think you call it a mfd), with an aftermarket screen. the reason i would want to do this is for hookups such as dvd, or any video. can you make an aftermarket screen work with the factory system and be able to hook and work other things? btw, my car does not have nav..
The screen is an integral part of the MFD, but it is possible to to view video from an external source. There have been several threads on this forum about just that topic. A search will turn them up if you are really interested. I believe Coastal makes an add-on product that will do what you describe. Tom
thanks, i have done much searching on here for all kinds of stuff, and have found the answers to many of my questions, but not much on this one. i have seen a/v add ons for screens with nav/backup cameras, etc, but my car does not have all of that. from what i understand, there are 2 types of screen for this car, one that is for the nav and all that, and one that i guess is a downgrade for the cars w/o nav.. the ones w/o nav, cant hook up and play the dvds or whatever from an exernal player. so, i was thinking if an aftermarket screen can be put in its place (touch screen of course), then i could control my cars factory screens, and be able to do other things. i may be way off with all of this, i am not an audio guy for sure (i build motors and do body work for fun), and i may be reading things wrong, i dont know. anyway, thanks for the info.
I think it's not going to work. The earlier cars had analog video; the later ones (2006 and later) have digital video. So there's a fundamental difference in the video systems there.
i have a 05 model. i figure if i cant make this work, i will build a custom mount for my samsung q1u-xp umpc and i can work just about everything off of it.
Have you checked out any of the units here: Sigma Automotive – Toyota Hybrid Prius 2004 - 2006 OEM & JDM auto accessories Scroll down to the bottom and look at the "performance, handling, & electronics" section. I can't vouch for any of them, but it might be a lead.
so only the 2006 and up models have the factory rear camera posibility ? and with the 2004 and 2005 models a i need to install a aftermarket something! edit i see a aftermarket video input device but only for models with the navigation installed. anyone now if the the 2004 and 2005 models without the navigation has a input for this?
this is what i am trying to find out . give me a few days of calling these companies, and learning a little more about what we have, and i will find something!
