We picked up our new black 2008 prius tonight. Damn this thing is one big cool gadget. Its kinda like driving an Ipod. Now the quest to 250,000 miles begins.
I'm a newbie, too. I picked mine up on December 26th and share your enthusiasm for the vehicle. I find myself looking for excuses to hop in the car and take it for a spin. So far, I've managed to take about a dozen of the people who work for me out for a "demo" ride.
Congratulations on a wise purchase! The prius is fun to drive, but, if you are not careful, after awhile you might find yourself disappointed anytime you don't average 50 mpg per tank! Seriously you have a safe, green, economical, technologically-advanced vehicle which should serve you well for a long time.
Another happy owner of a new Prius! Congrats on the Black. I love driving the car and it makes driving a lot more fun once again. However, since the weather was so nice today I decided to ride the bike to and from work. Tomorrow, I will be one-on-one with my Prius again. Regards.
Y'all have probably discovered these by reading the site, but if not: Read and follow the owner's manual and scheduled maintenance guide. They will save you trouble and money. When the last pip on the fuel gauge starts to flash it means "buy gas right now, damn it". You would be wise to buy gas before that time. The flexible bladder inside the fuel tank makes it impossible to accurately estimate how far you should be able to drive based on how much gas you bought last time and how far you have driven since. (And No, you can't drive far on battery alone after you run out of gas.) This site is littered with the sad stories of people who thought otherwise based on experience with other vehicles. The 12V battery is small and easy to kill by leaving on an interior light or leaving the rear hatch ajar, so always lock the car; if something is amiss it will give a long warning beep. In four years of locking up inside my garage this has twice saved me from a dead battery.
My 2 year "Prius birthday" is in 2 days. After 50,000 + miles, I love it as much as ever. Not true of all cars I've owned. Not one problem. Still original tires. All I've changed are wiper blades, gas and oil and filters.
The sure seem to be a lot of late Christmas Prius presents turning up under the tree, boy is it fun to actually have one that is all your own. Best wishes to all new owners like me. I haven't had a toy that was this much fun since????-- I give up, this much fun ever! Less then a week gone and it seems like my best friend I have known all my life, I think I must be in love. Congratulations. I just picked up mine the other day as well. I really like this car and think it's going to be fun to be 'challanged' with getting the best mileage possible.
If this is the "I just got a Prius" thread then I had mine delivered at 07:30 on the 4th of January. I like it so far, SWMBO likes it, the 2 year old likes it, the 14 year old is "indifferent". Oh well - what do we expect from teenagers? Mick
Just signed the papers on my new one today - it's in modification now having sunroof installed - should be able to pick it up from the dealer on Friday. I got to see it when it came off the truck, still wrapped in plastic. I am so happy!
I just picked mine up Tuesday!!! Isn't the Prius great? Thank you, PriusChat for helping me to make an informed decision.
