I just measured the tread depth on these tires. Original depth was 10/32". After just 3754 miles the tread depth is 8/32". At this rate I should get about 15000 miles out of these tires to the wear bars. I have kept them inflated to 35 psi front and 33 psi rear. I have never gone more than 2 weeks without checking pressure. I am 68 years old and drive that way. Easy acceleration and stops. No speeding or hard cornering. I can't believe they have worn so fast. They have worn evenly across the tread so no front end alignment problems indicated. Tomorrow I'm going to Discount tire and put on Michelin Destiny 205/55 - 16 tires. Does anyone have any experiances or comments about these tires? 2007 toyota Prius, package #6 touring. Original size tires were 195/55 - 16. Price for new Michelins is $506.65. This includes full free replacement warranty. Life time balance, flat fix, and rotation. Thanks
I have about 9000 miles on my Touring Edition with the original Bridgestones. I don't have a device to measure the tire treads but they don't look very worn to me. If I'm reading the tire warranty correctly, Bridgestone will replace the tires if they become unusable for any reason under the manfacturer's control before 6 years from the date of purchase. If that is the case, perhaps it would be worth checking with a Toyota or Bridgestone dealer before buying the new tires.
Keeping the pressure at 35/33 will increase tire wear. I have mine at 44/42 and at over 8K I still have great traction even in snow. The lower pressure recommended by Toyota is great for a soft ride but brutal on tire wear and mileage. Just my 2 cents.
The best thing you could probably do would be to raise you pressure up to ast least 40 PSI. If you check this website John's Stuff - Toyota Prius and more you can learn about tire wear and lots of other Prius stuff from someone who has been documenting in DETAIL since 2001.
The ones I have on my car were previously on a Scion tC and were taken off at 15,000. According to the guys at Discount and Evans Tire, I have about 5k left in them. they are 215/45ZR17.
My '07 Touring only has 21,000 miles on the clock. I've run the original Bridgestones at 38/36 psi, rotated once and they still show minimal wear. I expect to get 5000 to 10000 miles more on the original tires.
