    Cancelled warranty

I cancelled my warranty the day after I bought my 07 on the 26th of April and I kept after the finance man at my dealership , and he kept giving me the runaround ie: we are working on it and finally about the end of September they claimed they couldn't find the paperwork. I then called Toyota Financial and they said they had never got any paperwork from the dealer. They then took all the informaton on the car and told me I should get the check within a week. Well after 2 weeks I called again and was told everything was done and the check would be mailed the next day and I guess it was because I got it about 4 days later. I think if I hadn't contacted Toyota Financial I would probably still be waiting.

    Warranty on used Prius

I have searched hard as guest and member and still was unclear about ability to get extended warranty on a used 2007 with 14k on it. According to the dealer and to Troy Dietrich (who answered the phone this busy Monday morning), I have 3 years from when first titled/36k miles to institute extended warranty if I so choose. In addition, the car is covered by 10yr/150k battery pack (originally registered in NY), 8/100k hybrid, as well as 3 month/3k mile comprehensive with 7/100k limited powertrain and 7/100k roadside assistance because it is Toyota Certified. I think I'll be resting easy for quite awhile. I greatly appreciate all the knowledge and help I've gained from this site.

The tradein on my 2001 with 135k on it is disappointing, but that's another story.

Just got my warranty from Troy--Thanks All

I don't think this is the right thread for this posting, but I'm still relatively new to this forum.

Anyway, thanks to joining this forum, I dumped my 5-year, 100,000-mile Toyota Platinum warranty from the dealership that sold me my car (cost: $2,100), and received a 7-year, 100,000-mile Toyota Platinum warranty from Troy D. at Greenfield Toyota.

Just as suggested on this forum, Troy was a pleasure to deal with. As for my original dealership: Well, I cancelled my warranty directly through Toyota Financial.

With the money I saved on my warranty, I might even get those snow tires that I will probably need.

    Thanks, Priuschat!

From what I've read in this thread, the extended warranty only appears to be available if the Prius has less than 36,000 miles. What about purchasing an extended warranty for a recently purchased used "Toyota certified" 2004 Prius that has 47,000 miles on it? Given the reported problems with the MFD on the 2004, an extended warranty that covers more than the powertrain - which is already covered under the Toyota certified program - seems reasonable. The initial thought is that an additional 2 years/20,000 miles is about the right amount of coverage to add.

After talking to Troy and before paying for my used 2007, I told the dealer that I wouldn't purchase their extended warranty for $1400. I was offered a "$200 coupon" reduction and refused that, too. When all the papers were signed and I was about to go out the door, I was told that the coupon had been specially doubled in value and I would be able to get the extended warranty for $1000 until the end of the year.

    Glad I found this thread.

I purchased the Platinum 7/75 Extended Warranty yesterday when I bought my new 2008 Prius. Like many on here, I had done a thorough job researching the price of the car and got an excellent deal on the package that I wanted, but was totally unprepared for the Extended Warranty sales pitch. Wish I had checked here first!

It seems on the whole that I got a better deal than most, at $1,045 for the 7/75 Platinum, but that's still $350 more than offered here on PriusChat. And it's bugging me big time!

Note: With my warranty purchase, the dealer also threw in three of the first five oil changes for free (#1, #3, and #5, provided I paid for #2 and #4) but that still doesn't make up for the $370 I could have saved here. Or does it? I mean, how much is an oil change worth? Certainly not ~ $125 each!

OK, so assuming I want to cancel my existing extended warranty and reapply to get the savings, what's the best way to go about it? I tried to call Troy today but he's out of the office until January 2. Is there another person to call? If I go through warrantyshack.com will I get the same exact warranty and price that Troy offers?

And lastly, for canceling my existing extended warranty, what is the phone number to call? I'd rather not do it through the dealer. Is there a corporate number I can call to handle this? Maybe if I do it that way, the Service Dept. at my dealer won't even know, and I'll still be able to use the three free oil changes. :)

Thanks in advance for your help and advice!

That is because warrantyshack.com sales are processed by Troy.

Is the extended warranty sold by Troy and other people a Toyota Certified extended warranty?

Don't know who you are referring to when you say "other people", but the extended warranties sold by Troy are the real thing --- the genuine Toyota warranties issued by Toyota Financial.

Troy works for WarrantyShack.com/Toyota of Greenfield, MA (a Toyota dealer).

Thanks Tom! I'm asking because I like others read this thread too late to know that I can get the warranty for less (I paid $1695 :(). However, I wasn't sure what coverage level is the extended warranty sold by Troy.

I read through chunks of this thread, but I still couldn't figure out what coverage level it is. That said, is the warranty that Troy is selling the Toyota Certified Platinum? Based on the paperwork I have on the Toyota Extra Care of California, there are five coverage levels: Platinum, Gold, Powertrain, Toyota Certified Platinum, and Toyota Certified Gold. For those of you who got the warranties from Troy, can you verify with me which coverage level you got? Thank you very much! =) This forum has been very helpful in helping me buy my Prius!! =) Can't wait to get it back with the moonroof!!

    Hi Bonmo,

You're getting a moonroof on your Prius? That's great. The one I've seen on a PriusChatter's Magnetic Gray Prius looks terrific. I'd like one too, and will probably get one if I ever decide to go back to work.

Anyway, I believe that Troy sells every one of the Toyota warranties. The one for $990 is the highest level one for 7 years/100,000 miles, and I think it's called Platinum (and not Certified Platinum). I wasn't previously aware that Toyota had a Platinum and Certified Platinum, and a Gold and Certified Gold. I thought it just had 3 levels --- Platinum, Gold and Powertrain (see link below to Toyota Financial website page):

    http://www.toyotafinancial.com/cons...e&_pageLabel=pg_newVehicleComparisonChartPage

I'm guessing that the "Certified" ones may be either a California thing, or something for used cars?

I think I might have figured out what the different warranty levels. I think the Toyota Certified Platinum and Toyota Certified Gold I'm referring to is for used vehicles. I will check with my dealer and then ask them to cancel my warranty! =)

That said, I noticed people have posted that they were able to call or email Toyota Financial to get it taken care of. Can anyone kindly supply that information?

I don't mind going into the dealer to do it because I'm still waiting to pick up my car, but I prefer them to not pester me with excuses of charging me a ton for the warranty I can get it from Troy!

When I bought my car they offered me the 7 year 100k for 1350.00 I told them no thanks I can get it for 990.00. They matched the price so might want to try that.

Is the price for pre-paid service plan $670 or $875 for Premium 4
yr / 55,000 mile plan w/ 5000 mile service intervals? I am kinda confused. Some post says 670 (even Danny's signature), but some others say 875 (as well as the quote I got).

Although there are a few threads about this topic already, but there is no definite answer. Is the pre-paid going to save you some money or just cost more?

    Thanks for all your input!

I just cancelled my extended warranty at $1680 at the dealer, and
    enquired about service costs.

There are 11 services up to 55k.
    They are $70, except the 15k $200, 30k $260, 45k $200.

So total is $1120. Troy's quote saves me about 20%.

You might put the money in the bank and make interest instead,
but those service prices are going to go up anyway, and I like having
a coupon to avoid any upselling.

Has there been any thread comparing this warranty with the one from warrantydirect? I am specifically interested in knowing if it is worthwhile to pay the extra premium for this:
    http://warrantydirect.com/secure_care.asp

As I understand, Toyota's warranty does not cover wear-and-tear, only full breakdown. Isn't it easy for Toyota to claim that the problem is normal wear and tear and decline coverage? I am just joining PriusChat and would love to be completely wrong about this.
WarrantyDirect's warranty supposedly covers normal wear and tear for most items except the exclusionary ones. Any good/bad experiences with them?

I was curious about this as well. I received a quote of $875 for the prepaid service contract. Did the price go up on this product?

    Thanks,

    Manzinn

I just joined this chat, so the following REDUCED price might be redundant.

Just before my 2004 Prius turned 3 (Sept, '07), I bought a package from a distant dealer - Toyota of Greenfield, MA, (T. Dietrich, Business Manager). He may be reached at 800-255-0212, or www.toyotaofgreenfield.com/finance.html

At the time of purchase, I paid about $985.00 for the 7/10/0 package (MSRP was $1650 in 2004).

I don't get any commission or anything out of your transaction, but I remember being very thankful when someone else mentioned the discount to me.

    Little Lou:)

It is tacky to promote a competitor of a PriusChat sponsor, who helps pay for this site, in a forum titled “Sponsored Commercial Sales.â€

That having been said, Troy Dietrich is the official supplier of the PriusChat extended warranties and service contracts.
