Is there a way to tell what package a prius has by VIN #? Specifically I am looking at this car: JTDKB20U063154250 Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance.
Go to: http://www.decodethis.com/ or type in "VIN codes" in Google. Also, most car insurance companies have decoders on there web site. Just be aware that you may be putting out your or someones personnel info if the VIN can be linked to a buyer. (e.g. next time leave the last digits off).
Ask about the car: What year? 1 cd or 6 cd changer. Cloth or leather. (although that isn't always reliable with after market) VSC. Homelink. Smartkey. A lot of these answers can indicate what package it is. Also, what state it was sold in if the owner/seller knows. Certain packages are more common in certain states. I don't think a VIN will tell you any of this.

Re: Actual Answer Like I said in the 2nd post, the VIN only tells me the year and whether it has side airbags or not. Of course JTD is Japan, Toyota, Tahara plant and so forth. But otherwise yes, you can't tell the package that's why I had to dig a little deeper.
Thanks guys. This VIN# was used by an insurance company as a "comp" car so they could justify the price they are giving me on my 2006 Prius that was totalled in a car wreck. I was trying to find out the package because they do not say what the "comparable" cars they are using have. They don't believe in book value, they just use their own market analysis and the more I look at it they more I see flaws in their methods. I am unhappy as this prius was a mint condition dealer serviced car and they don't even consider the options like bluetooth to "add any value" as they told me. I spent $500 on a set of new Michellin Hydroedges at costco 2 weeks before the accident and they are trying to tell me they were 50% worn. I don't know how someone can wear 50% of a tire in 2 weeks. The nubs were still on them. After going back and forth they offered me a little over $100 for the set. The appraiser also said there were minor "dings" on the car. He must have ESP or something because the car was hit on 3 sides by multiple cars and looked like a foiled up ball of metal afterwards. Through all this, he found "dings", and somehow knew that these dings were "pre-accident" dings. This car was always garaged, cleaned, waxed, and kept mint. The accident happened because someone else ran a stop sign, and after being with this insurance company for years I feel I am getting the shaft. Everything is a fight with them. I am just trying to get what the car was worth. I already bought an 08 Prius. Toyota motor was kind enough to give me $500 after I told them about my accident. They are sending a check. I wish insurance companies worked the same way.
