Well, since someone mentioned the CSI spotting, I thought I would throw in this week's episode of CW's new "Reaper" series (Oct. 2). The Prius is featured prominently throughout the episode. The main character's father buys him the Prius to replace his damaged Ford Taurus wagon. It is possible the Prius may continue to be featured in the series, but I am not sure yet. I found it interesting that all characters referred to the car only as a "hybrid" and never used the name "Prius" or "Toyota." I can only assume Toyota did not pay part or all of the standard product placement fees and thus the producers of this show opted NOT to identify the vehicle by name. They did not cover up the badges on the car, however, as some shows do with laptop computers under the same circumstances. Short series synopsis: a young fellow discovers his parents sold his soul to the devil years ago. satan now demands the son act as his bounty hunter in recapturing (a-la Ghostbusters) escaped evil souls/demons in the real world. comedy/sci-fi. http://www.cwtv.com/shows/reaper *** SPOILER ALERT *** In this episode (#2) the newly gifted Prius is featured throughout the episode. The star shows it to his friends at work and remarks, "my soul gets sold to the devil... I get 42 (MPG)." His friend observes, "it's a chick car." Later, the Prius is struck by lightning and growls at the boys (animated/possessed by some electricity-controlling soul). One friend laments that it "had to be a hybrid." When the Prius then chases them back into their workplace one friend says, "I take it back, your car's definitely not a chick car" to which the star replies, "it's trying to kill us!" Perhaps we will learn the fate of his new car next week.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(MacGuyver @ Oct 4 2007, 04:48 PM) </div> Our local newspaper had an article on "hypermilers". It had all the pictures of the PRIUS interior, the MFD, etc. etc... Then on the cover it has a picture of a person standing next to a civic hybrid. I wanted to vomit since I do not consider the civic hybrid capable of matching the PRIUS mileage. Anyway, the press and the media can sometimes be weitd in what they pick and choose to be correct.
I was tempted to start a thread about the Reaper Prius, but noticed that someone had mentioned it in another thread. I have to admit that I laughed out loud when I saw that his dad gave him a Prius. You gotta admit that it's pretty funny that the Devil's bounty hunter drives a Prius. "I've changed my mind: it's not a chick car." "It's trying to kill us!" "That's what I mean."
Re: Prius on CW's "Reaper" I made sure the radio station tuning was correct on the show for the opening of one of the episodes (reaper fans take note) We're using 2 prii - both full load /w leather interior.
Re: Prius on CW's "Reaper" Perfect car for reaping souls because it's good for sneakin' up on motha ... You know what U Turn says.
Re: Prius on CW's "Reaper" it's pretty funny... we leave the fob on the windshield on the left bottom corner so the crew can move the car when they need it. It sits there during filming (left in on position but in park) and periodically turns itself on... that tends to scare people standing around it... I get a kick out of it ... I had to fight to get the shot of the fm radio being tuned properly... they were going to edit it out and fake a normal car tuner... I told them everyone here would know that's wrong...
