I"m about to do a DIY for leather seat covers... just a question for anyone that's done it... did you need hog rings .. or did you have to just remove them? there is also this option... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-...005QQitemZ150190923914QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V did anyone get the seat cover cover? (link above) Yes, i have read the thread about one guy having problems installing it. I've done an interior for my old car before and i'm hoping it's at the same level of difficulty. I'm somewhat mechanically inclined.... i've taken an engine apart... and played with suspension... etc... also did a little SAE in college... anyhow just wanted to get people's experience before i get started... there are so many different ebay sellers also... i'd like to get all the tools and material ready before starting.. i hate downtime!!! thanks...
Prius2go removed the old hog rings (I remember him telling me that there were A LOT of them) in order to take off the OEM fabric covers, and I think he used small plastic cable ties (instead of new hog rings) to install the leather covers. Those JDM covers look interesting: I don't think I've seen any other aftermarket leather covers that come with sewn on tightening tape (sounds like velcro) and therefore can be slipped over the existing covers.
ebay one is interesting.. i removed the hog rings before on my old car.(did it over 5 years ago... kinda don't remember the procedure) . i remembered them being the biggest pain in the butt... they do sell devices .. on ebay for cheap.. for the hog rings... also it seems like the only complaints bout the installs were hogrings... let me pm Prius2go...maybe he can join us....
If your talking about the car, then there is no manual and if your talking about the seats , I don't think is is any automatic.
There's only manually adjusted seats. Outside the US it's the same, except all/most/some? other countries (e.g., prius2go's England) have height adjustment
Our 04 came with cloth, & getting rid of it was a big priority. The dogs and the passengers just seemed to get the cloth way too oily / dirty. We bought our leather aftermarket covers off Ebay just a couple years ago.. We had a shop in L.A. do the install as it looked like a TON of work. It took 2 guys at the shop, the better part of a work day to get it done. Sorry I can't remember how many pig rings were put on or taken off.
04-06: part of option packages. 07-08: standard equipment. So any aftermarket covers you get, you need to make sure it has the side airbag breakaway stitching, cut out, or flap.
A month ago, I got a full set of classicSoftTrim.com leather from eBay for ... $179.99. No kidding. ($400-$500 is normal) I had the Hayward branch of classicSoftTrim.com install the full set (all seats, headrests, 4 arm rests and center console) for $500. I left the Prius there overnight since, according to them, it would take at least 6-8 hours. And, I think they did a wonderful job. They are very experienced with Prius since they have installed a lot of kits for Toyota dealers. I saw three brand new Prius on site waiting for installation. According the lady who sold me the kit off eBay, installation could be lower in other areas (say, $400) since SF Bay Area is expensive in everything....
Regarding the JDM set, I have two concerns to raise here - I don't see the mentioning of side airbags - It seems like the door arm-rests are not included (from picture). How about the center console? I would look into these two questions before I commit to purchase it. For installation, I don't think I could have done it better than professionals. So, to me, $400-$500 labor charge is reasonable. P.S. labor charge for interior installation is about $50-65/hr according to what I gather from internet.
hello I used a pack of 100 tie wraps to put on the rear seat covers bought another couple of packs for the fronts but there are very few hog rings there - maybe 20? the seat covers included the airbag brackets etc there was very little leather in them happy seasonal greetings
Sorry for the delay ... holiday travel and all. Off the top of my head ... just under $400. If they'd have estimated better though, I'd bet they'd never do it for that price again As for the other thread, regarding side curtain airbags on 2004's: Yes, we have 'em but it was an upgrade way back then. I remember something about the install had to take them into account.
the other thing to loook out for that ebay item shows a 2006+ prius each of the two rear seat middles are narrower on a 2004-2006 make sure they know which is yours!
I just received these leather seats and they look pretty good. I've yet to install them but they came with front seats, rear seats and front and back arm rests. They do slip over existing cloth covers, have velcro instead of hog rings and the info shipped with the seats indicates they have special stithing for the seat air bags. I will post picture when installed.
you are my new idol... are they perforated leather? is the leather soft? i can't wait... please take many pictures.. can you take preinstalled pciture... i'd like to see how they are before installed also...
