Who else wants a carbon fiber hood?////PIC ADDED photoshop Yes, I know that the OEM hood is aluminum and its light as a feather but still.... carbon fiber looks so much better . Who else? Maybe we could get a groupbuy from some company or something!
Whats the point of buying one when your hood is already aluminum? With CF all you'll get is headache and spiderweb cracks. Trust me, been there done that. Aluminum hoods are better than CF.
I wouldn't get one... it's just rice! However, if I was going to get one, I'd want to make sure it's made by a reputable after-market manufacturer. Fitment and workmanship can get fairly sketchy with body parts.
Here is what I could come up with... I'm not much of a photoshop artist... but hey you get the idea... The hood.. the headlights.. the grille/the TRD emblem.. and the foglights... are all fake... just so you dont get confused
If you do get a CF bonnet you should have the emblem powder coated black, it spoils it a little. I'm too old for CF bonnets
I crew on a GrandAm racing team. We run Chevy Cobalts. The cost of a CF hood for the Cobalt is around $1000.00. Stick with Aluminum!
I might be interested. Also, does anyone know of any manufactures for this or plastic injection molding?
might have been a good idea for me last year BEFORE i dented my hood with the garage door. but the dent is minor (the collision with the garage door was almost non existent so the hood is very very easy to dent) and i dont think i would consider black and since i have an SPM as well ,that would put me out
Cheap cabron fiber often looks like hell, especially after a couple years when the epoxy-like coating begins to yellow.
When that happens, he can cover it with faux carbon fiber wrap. If someone wants to replace an aluminum hood on a regular street transportation car and can afford it, more power to them, but. It probably won't fit as well as the factory hood did. It won't hold up to the environment as well as the factory paint would have. The weight savings will be minuscule to negative.
probably should work out what the actual weight saving is in the firstplace. Im thinking, not a lot paint should be ok, but there is the complication of oven curing so it would have to be a different paint system.
Run you an add in your local paper you,d be surprised of the calls you,ll get on that one, there's people looking for those hoods so getting rid of it may not be as hard as you think, good luck.
