I'm trying to use the Voice Recognition feature and I'm getting wierd results! So far, the only command that is recognized is "Radio", and that only turns the radio ON....never OFF. When I say anything else, the results are unpredictable, but never what I said. So far it has enabled the "Higher Education" POI and the "ATM" POI when I said "Radio Off". It turned on "French Restaurants" once...I didn't even know the system defined restaurants by cuisine. 8) Has anybody else had this kind of problem? Where do I find a list of pre-defined Commands? The Help screen doesn't seem to answer that question, or at least I don't understand the answer if it did. Is it possible that my voice range is a problem...I have a resonant deep bass voice? I may try speaking in falsetto, or have my wife try....? Any ideas out there?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Hytec\";p=\"54425)</div> ....if she kicks you in the right spot....well.....that should do it! Seriously, proper enunciation doesn't seem to work. I've had better luck speaking quickly and running words together.
I have never had one correct response and gave up on it a long time ago. I have a medium range, beautifully mellifluous voice.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(tag\";p=\"54432)</div> I'm not into submitting myself to intense pain, even in the interest of science. Thanks anyway Tag. BTW, thanks for the Excel Command list link.
Slightly off topic... would be cool to change the car voice to the Japanese version. For those in the UK, does the car voice have your cool british accent?
The general consensus is not to say something like "Ray D O Off" but "radio-off". The mike is on the left side of the map light. You might need to lower other noise in the car. Of course you have a catch-22, you want to turn the radio off so you can use a voice command, but you can't because the radio is too loud. You can turn it off by holding the Mode button down. Then you can say "French food" followed by "radio-on". (edited to correct mike location, in case someone reading later doesn't get down to Evan's (thanks) correction. )
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(tntna\";p=\"54644)</div> Apparently the Australian cars do so I presume the UK cars do as well.
This is to solve the "Radio Off" problem without voice. As long as you are pressing a button on the wheel, try the Mode button that (when pushed and released) advances the Audio system from AM to FM, FM2, CD, Tape, and back (I think). Push and hold the Mode button and the audio will turn on or off. Other unsolicited advice: Don't drink and navigate. Drink a glass of milk before you go to sleep. Otherwise you'll spill it.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(bruceha_2000\";p=\"54694)</div> I'll try to speak more normally and see what happens. BTW, apparently Toyota has repositioned the mike in the '05. Mine is just below the left edge of the dome light, to the left of that neat box for stowing dark glasses. 8)
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(bruceha_2000\";p=\"54694)</div> I agree with most of that...the run it together (not forced fast, just like you're talking to someone you know), assure ambient noise is fairly low (esp. the AC fan can affect thing, other people talking, etc. The radio mutes when you hit the voice command button, so that isn't an issue. Also, the microphone is in the overhead accessory thing that has the sunglasses holder. The microphone is right next to the map light up there...definately speak in that general direction.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(jimofdg\";p=\"54703)</div> Thanks for the ON/OFF tip. More unsolicited advice: If you drink and drive, don't park. Accidents cause people!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(tntna\";p=\"54644)</div> Hmm, accents. Let's see here. . . Kentucky: “At tree stump, left turn.†New Jersey: “Hey, I told ya’s to turn back there. Screw you!†Yakov Smirnoff: “In America you can always find a party. In Russia the party always finds you.†British: “Approaching round-about; may God have mercy on your soul.â€
Now that I'm using the list, the commands are pretty consistent. 8) Thanks to all of you for your help. Ya know, computers always seems to work a little better when you play by their rules....especially when they are female!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Hytec\";p=\"54832)</div> I agree. However, I would not limit this principle to computers.
