How about Thomas Crapper, alleged patentee of the toilet? Oh crap, there's a lucky guess. Thorne, England. (Are you sure that shouldn't be Throne?) [attachmentid=12609] Who's next? I'm going to wash my hands of this for now.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(hyo silver @ Nov 25 2007, 12:09 AM) </div> FWIW, actually the full address given is the hamlet of Waterside in (near?) Thorne. By the way, speaking of race tracks, both Circuit Park Zandvoort, Watkin's Glen were filming locations for Airportkids DVD of Grand Prix starring James Garner who later played the private eye Rockford!

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(efusco @ Nov 24 2007, 08:18 PM) </div> Google's useless on this one - Big "HA", "HA" airmarking, "weird airmarkings" all turn up zip. Interesting how the H looks well diked while the A has been left to erode away. Peculiar too is that the H was built to be filled by the sea (or lake or river) but there's no trace of similar water entrance for the A (from the lower limb of the H or from anywhere else). Looks well engineered - a municipal or military project, not made by kids with plastic shovels while waiting for mom to come back with the ice cream cones. Trying to think how "HA" would be a useful airmarking - all airmarkings I'm familiar with spell out whole names. Well, it'll be upside down when we find it - see the compass. Got anything that'll help us narrow it down, Evan? MB
AHA! Until that last clue, I'd been all over The Netherlands, looking for a new berth for Holland America. (There's an indoor ski dome in Dubai - your petro dollars at work.) It's in Abu Dhabi, and upside down, no less. Sneaky. (Hmm. Yes, your image did have a compass on it. Not that I looked until now.) [attachmentid=12616] I don't have another image ready, so if anyone else does, be my guest. Unless of course I have a flash of inspiration in the next few minutes and beat you to it.
Good to see the site back up. What happened yesterday? Anyway, here's a bigger picture to help you along. As a further hint, there's an avant-garde station off to the bottom right of the picture, across the river. [attachmentid=12623]
I'm not sure why two images of the same place have different sources, but yes, it could be France. Or maybe France. The "avant-garde" was a good clue, not just for the language of the country, but also for the architecture and name of the station.

Looks equatorial, or just south of the equator, judging by the shadows. What shadows there are are very short, and the dark faces are all the southern facades, where we're able to see them. Looks 1st world, too. But I'm damned if I can find a coastal road anywhere in those latitudes with THAT striping and impeccable pavement. But it DOES exist. Is this a famous, or recent film? Is the scene at the ocean one of the movie's famous scenes? MB
