We are having record low temps in Los Angeles this week. It was 32 in the Valley this morning. I saw the yellow snow flake for the first time. It was on all the way to school. It never warmed up above 36. I know those of you in the northeast think we are wimps, but 32 is cold for here.
Same here. The ambient temperature indicator started dropping like a lead weight as I exited the garage and started driving my daughter to her school bus stop. When it hit 37, a yellow snow flake appeared on both the MFD and the dashboard. The one on the MFD stayed lit only momentarily. It was down to 34 degrees by the time that I dropped her off and to 32 as I was crossing the Sepulveda basin.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(jkash\";p=\"53969)</div> I relate! I have yet to see the yellow snowflake... but I think it's cold here in Central Texas! Apparently, it was 80 all through the weekend, but now that I've returned it's dropped to the 40's. Brrr....
Mine too. My second bar is usually way over 50 mpg, sometimes close to 75, but today it was about 40. I got the car Feb. 26th this year, so this is the first time we have had real cold temps. Now I know what all the folks in cold climates have been talking about.
Holy CATS!!! I went to the "Mr. Kash's Prius Page" and clicked on Barrett's 2004 Prius Gas Mileage to see another guy who is tracking mileage like I am. That guy's website is a based on some clown's server that creates a pop-up hell and even tried to load a known spyware program!!! BEWARE!!! Kash, you probably should delete that link. Feel free to replace it with my totally SAFE mileage chart! http://www.w8kc.com/priusmileage.htm
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(priusham\";p=\"54014)</div> There is nothing wrong with Jeff Kash's homepage. I have gone there many times and never encountered the slightest bit of a problem. It is hosted by EarthLink, which just happens to be my ISP. EarthLink is very vigilant in its control of spam and pop ups. You may want to scan your hard drive for spyware. Whatever problem you are experiencing is caused by something other than Jeff's site.
I got the snowflake today when I started the car for work. At first I thought it might be due to it being so rainy then I realized that it was b/c it's cold out. We had sleet at one point today.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(priusham\";p=\"54014)</div> I see what you mean about the pop-ups. It didn't always have them. It didn't try to install any spyware, but perhaps it is because I have a Mac. Perhaps Barrett will read these posts and do something about the pop-ups. I can also add a link to your database. It looks good.
I found ANOTHER yellow snowflake icon in my Prius on a recent cold day in Illinois (not unusual). I think we had the Energy screen on to see the outside temperature (which was falling, as we had just left the garage). When it reached 37 (F.), the indicator light came on, of course. We stopped for a red light just then, and the second yellow snowflake appeared at the top right corner of the MFD. I think the words "Low temperature" followed the icon, so in all it was about 2.5 inches wide. It had the appearance of the "Audio Off" or "Low Fuel" messages that appear no matter what you are doing with the screen. When we resumed moving the message went away. Has anyone else seen this message? The exact wording would be helpful to those who wonder why Toyota put it there.
I saw that text this morn. I will try to see if I can get it to show again. Perhaps highly likely as it is now slightly snowing here.
We had just picked up out Prius from getting the Fuel filler/gas tank recall done last eve, so when I saw something coming on the dash this morning - in yellow, I about had a cow. Luckily I looked closely and figured out it was a snowflake for being 37 degrees in Orange County. Whew. ... Scared me for a minute until my eyes focused (5:30am...)..
Yellow snow? Coming down yellow? Around here when it does snow its white. If you see a patch of yellow snow the general rule is don't eat it. I don't know what to do if it is coming down yellow but I would not run around trying to catch snowflakes on my tongue. No sir. Stay away from yellow snow!
You guys are silly. I celebrate when the snowflake turns off and my mileage goes above 43 in the winter! It's amazing what a difference the cold makes.
Update: 10 degrees outside of Reno yesterday morning, snow on the ground and more coming, 55.2 for the last 258 miles... Driving slower due to the snow helps my mileage. Old guy with a slow attitude slows down.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(priusham\";p=\"54014)</div> Gee, let me guess . . . by chance using Internet Explorer? ukeright: It's kind of funny that the answer to your pop-up (and many other) problems is sitting there just to the left of your post. It's called FireFox. Using Internet Explorer is like playing with a loaded gun, except that guns have a safety mechanism. .
The second snowflake display, the one on the MFD, is full-width. Not surprisingly, the wording reads "Outside temperature" and the numerals appear in the upper right corner. This goes away in a few seconds, just like an "Audio Off" message.
