I read in the manual that the doors are supposed to lock automatically after 30 seconds if you have Smart Start. That is not happening. Could it be that I am too close to the car? Any ideas? Jeff
I don't think there's any automatic lock for the car doors. I think the 30 seconds is the amount of time after you lock the doors before the Smart Entry will allow you unlock the doors. This is to allow you to lock the doors and check the handle to be sure it's locked. The unlock button on the fob should work at any time, as would the mechanical key. If this isn't it, could you list the page number in the manual?
There's an option in the car's settings (that can be altered with the Toyota hand-tester) to set the locks to auto-lock after 30 seconds. I've had this happen when I used my remote to unlock the car from a distance, then got sidetracked talking to someone in the parking lot. I think the idea is that if the fob is in your coat or purse and the unlock signal is sent, the car re-locks after 30 seconds incase it was just something accidentally triggering the fob button so your car isn't left unlocked. You should be able to try it by remote unlocking the car with all the doors closed, then waiting 30 seconds. You should see a beep/flash as it relocks. There is a 2.5 second (default) delay after hitting the lock buttons on the door before the smart-entry system reactivates. Dave.
I think that the car will also automatically lock with the regular fob (not SE/SS) if you unlock the car using the fob, but don't open the door for a period of time (30 seconds??). I've had this happen to me once.
Is there a way to get a none s.e. equipped car to lock the doors after the car starts (to lock you in while driving)?
whenever i wash my prius it would unlock whenever i spray water by the door handle (as it said it would in the manual) and after 30 seconds without opening the door, it would lock itself again. too bad that's not the case when you get in and drive it. or maybe at least a speed controlled autolock feature? but hey, it's got a lot of features as it is!
It'll happen if you Don't open a door after unlocking the car. Otherwise, there is no autolock feature, before or after the car is started.
It's a thread bump on a four-year-old thread. Not to mention that it's being done on every thread that mentions automatic door locks.
