Sorry don't know what happened to the original post.

Bottom line, short history lesson. Alan Turing was a gay mathematician during WWII. His algorithms were essential in breaking the German enigma code. This allowed the allies to evade/defeat the german u-boats and eventually prevail in the north atlantic. Thus, this shortened the war in the european theater, saving thousands of allied lives, and probably preventing the need to use an A-bomb on Germany.

The tragedy was that he was arrested and prosecuted for having relations with a man. This eventually led to his apparent suicide by eating an apple laced with cyanide(hence the hypothesized Apple tribute). An individual who arguably had as much influence to the outcome of WWII as Churchill or Ike, goes down in infamy, because uptight people of power find homosexuality objectionable.

Or maybe the apple was to pay homage to Newton. But I don't think he was gay.

I have been an "Apple guy" for over 25 years. I have never heard of this one.

Checked out wiki and found a link to this article.

It appears that this "rumor(?)" comes from a fiction/fact movie "based" on Alan Turing. So there is likely some "creative license" involved.

I'm sure Steve Wozniak would be able to answer this one - and I'm sure he would. He has always been approachable.

My remembrance (not that reliable) was that the bite was distinguish it from the apple records logo. But they still sued.

I was unaware that Turing was infamous by anybody's standards who was likely to know who Turing was. Is there some registry somewhere in England?

It always struck me as odd (queer?) that the elite of England would be scandalized by Turing's sexual preferences. An early version of "don't ask, don't tell?"

Correct. Many years later, and even after Apple (the record company), won the lawsuit, Apple (the computer company), now owns the likeness, and logos, of Apple, the record company. They plan on leasing the logos to the record company. How does that happen, I don't know. But it has.

I thought my Prius Touring was a tribute to Alan Turing.

Perhaps it's a reference to needing an infinite amount of memory, as with the Turing Machine. :D
