I can't find a timer or a reference in the manual to one. Don't all cars have timers so you can time how long it takes you to get some place? Thanks Irv
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(IrvingBerlin @ Nov 12 2007, 08:03 AM) </div> ? It has a clock. I've never had a car with a timer...and the Prius doesn't either.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(efusco @ Nov 12 2007, 09:07 AM) </div> Lol. No, I'm not cooking a turkey, but I guess you answered my question. I've been living a very sheltered life with my other cars. Irv.
Quite a few do ... my Lexus RX did to tell you how long you had been driving ... my mother's Lincoln Aviator does as well. It will keep a running drive time for you even when you stop and turn off the car ... useful for knowing total drive time w/o stops, etc.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Husker4theSpurs @ Nov 12 2007, 10:02 AM) </div> My BMW 750i has a timer My Cadillac has a timer My Lexus 330 had a timer My BMW 535 had a timer. When you turn off your car like at a gas station or whatever, the timer stops. That way you know the total travel time you spent driving vs looking at a clock on your dash which only tells you when you started (if you make a note of the time.) I don't think timers are too ergonomically or environmentally or financially costly so maybe one day even the Prius will have one. On the other hand, if you want a timer on your car, maybe Toyota would prefer you spend the extra bucs on a Lexus. Irv.
My Prius has a timer. It's actually quite high-tech: it's this thing that's attached to my wrist, and has a few buttons on it so I can keep track of the current time of day, the date and day of the week, check the time in another time zone, and even track intervals between arbitrary events by pressing "start/stop," so it's not just limited to tracking driving time! Not only that, but here's the really cool part: when I get out of the Prius, it goes with me! I can use it to time other things too!!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Ichabod @ Nov 12 2007, 08:17 AM) </div> And our "high-tech"device attached to wrist has an altimeter also- wish the Prius had one...lat and longitude but no altitude...
I know what you're talking about OP, its the ignition timer, my Audi A4 had it my mothers Stratus had it and my Boyfriends 08 Lancer has it (I think), It would be nice to have one on the Prius, On the cars that I have seen...The timer would flash at 2 hours to let you know to get out and stretch and let the car rest. On the A4 I think it was there to have you stop and let the Turbo cool down.
If you look at the models listed of the cars which have this feature, I'm sure you'll start to get the picture. What you're referring to is a full-blown cruise-computer. Many of the luxury car lines have them, but few of the lower-end vehicles do.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(TomorrowMatters @ Nov 12 2007, 12:50 PM) </div> Let the turbo cool down? You can't be serious. The turbo is in operating temperature maybe 10-15 minutes after you start driving the car. So the timer shouldn't be longer than 15 minutes to let the turbo cool. Not only that, all modern turboed cars have their turbo bearings water cooled, so the oil won't get cooked by the turbo and it won't cook after you shutoff the car. The stretching part I can someone relate, even tho I've never seen that kind of timer before on the Audi A4's, MB's and Bimmers I drove before. Sounds very odd.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Husker4theSpurs @ Nov 12 2007, 11:02 AM) </div> or to time how long does it take to fill up with gas on your Licoln Aviator
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Prius 07 @ Nov 12 2007, 03:29 PM) </div> Notice that it's only running between starts... specifically to avoid reminding you how long it took to fill the tank
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Ichabod @ Nov 12 2007, 05:39 PM) </div> WOW - they think of everything
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Prius 07 @ Nov 12 2007, 04:44 PM) </div> The car timer is very handy although I never missed one before I had one. Then again, I was happy with a getting up to change the channels on my TV before they invented remote control. I have a watch with a chronograph but who'se going to remember to turn it on and off every time I turn off the car. I'm lucky to remember to put the watch on my wrist in the morning. Since it's such a simple but handy device, I'm going to assume that Toyota would prefer you buy a Lexus if you really want a timer. Irv
