I just read it in the Sacramento Bee, but haven't seen it on TV. I'm not sure if Sacramento is in the 'Southwest' advertisement area. http://www.sacbee.com/114/story/483311.html Even Senator Diane Feinstein is also voicing her displeasure.. Watch it here. http://youtube.com/watch?v=K5gbG9VbhDk What stupid advertisement agency thought it would be a good idea to ridicule California's sixth largest city as not being worthy of visiting? Who are they trying to impress? Do they think people from Fresno shouldn't buy Prii? That is one advertisement agency which needs to be fired. Who needs that kind of publicity?
This ad/story is ridiculous for two reasons 1) If I didnt know there was a "controvesey" over the ad involving fresno I would have never even noticed the shot at them. Its probably the most subtle thing in the entire ad 2) the ad itself is ridiculous, everyone driving around in prii its really creepy
I was wondering when someone might bring that up lol. I didn't go to Fresno on my Cali trip but I figured it was a local "insider" joke.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tideland Prius @ Nov 11 2007, 05:38 PM) </div> Pretty much. It's usually known for it's horrid air quality and crime/theft rates. lol *edit* I forgot Meth! lmao The ad was pretty funny but I would never have ran it because the idea it depicts is exactly what all of the opponents of fuel efficiency, the environment, progress, etc. see in Prius drivers. Seemingly mindless clones who believe in EcoTopia and think everyone should drive a Prius. I do fall victim to one of those three though. h34r:
How'd you like to be collecting cow farts? Hilarious! Of course, everyone who doesn't live on the left coast already knows it's the complete truth!
Slamming Fresno...wouldn't be the first time. It seems that a character in "Airplane" made a similar comment. Another thought is that where I live, we used to crack jokes about the Phoebus section of Hampton, such as "People don't go to Phoebus, people leave Phoebus." Now, it actually has real standing as a historical district, complete with what that usually implies. Of course, I recall when the American theater there was the Lee Adult Theater...
I couldn't help but think of Anyway, its sounds like Toyota has apologized and removed the line from the ad.
Hey! Fresno isn't all that bad. A little backward maybe, but not all that bad. I got my Prius from Fresno with a referral from a Hollywood buyer's agent. I got a call that there was the exact car I wanted available immediately at MSRP. This was back when my local dealers in Silicon Valley wouldn't call me back, didn't take my name when I came in, and quoted maybe in six weeks.
Hmm, well people are just a lot less able to take a joke these days. I don't remember anyone suing anyone back when this TV show starring Carol Burnett aired in 1986: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nTQRtppImo
Uh. They're both states. You can have a Newark or a Camden. Public? Is Fresno really the, "Raisin Capital of the World?" I thought that was somewhere in Florida?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(skguh @ Nov 12 2007, 07:29 AM) </div> Everything in Fresno tends to shrivel and wither so I wouldn't doubt it. lol
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(skguh @ Nov 12 2007, 08:29 AM) </div> Apparently so. I mean, how many cities can claim to have a "Raisin Processing Laboratory"? Or a "Raisin Babies Jazz Band"?
