Fuel Filler TSB Success, Anyone?

I just had the TSB done (at about 330 miles on the current tank). Until now, I usually am only able to put in 7.5 to 8 gals before the gas pump clicks off (California vapor recovery in effect). I can usually click in at least 2 gals more, 0.1 gals per click. Hopefully the new filler tube will help with this. I'll report in a week or two how the first full tank progresses.

One note on the installation--they apparently needed to clean out the top glovebox to make the computer change. In doing so, they also needed to remove the shelf. If you are going to have this done, it might be wise to clean it out yourself, first.

They may have also needed to clean out the lower box too, but mine is pretty empty. I only have the packet of manuals and a cleaning kit for the screen stored there permanently. When I am travelling, a CD wallet, my camera, and perhaps a lodging guide also go there.

 

I had this TSB performed at Tansky Toyota Columbus OH where I purchased it - in September 2004. Had it done at approx 5,000 miles. They professed they had not performed it before.

As with most earlier replies to this post, I saw a slight increase in the fillup volume, up to the mid 8.5 gal range, plus the first few bars on the fuel gage disappear faster than the too-slow rate before TSB done. Not worth it, IMHO, especially given what happened to me - read on.

It took TWO days in the shop to accomplish the work.
Before I took it in, I asked how long it would take. I was told "same day in and out".
Alas, they "didnt realize" that the module that was being replaced had to be set with the mileage that my car had on its odometer when I delivered it to them, BUT the mileage setting in the module cannot be done by the dealer, but has to be done by the manufacturer/supplier/subcontractor of the module. So, the first day, they read the mileage, told the subcontractor, waited til the subcontractor sent it to them overnight FedEx and installed it the next day.

My complaint was that they misinformed me that it would take one day, whch IF they had read the TSB, they would have realized that it takes (or likely takes) longer. Not a class act by my dealer.

I'd recommend you not invest the time, for such a small chance of a significant payoff, which I have not seen.

...ditto for me too. Slightly more gas going in, but nothing approaching ten gallons. Most I ever put in was just over eight with the last bar lit. I'm too chicken to run until the last bar starts blinking.

 

Evan is your ambient temp in the 30 to 50 F range in the over night period? If so your probably at the extreme start of the shrinking bladder "syndrome" and it might be contributing to the problem.

I just had the TSB performed on my Prius. After running two tanks through, I find the following: I can now get a max of 7.1 gallons in, going from a flashing single bar. Upon topping off the tank, to the point of seeing fuel standing in the filler neck, I indicate one bar short of full. The indicator goes down very quickly at first, then the last three bars very, very slowly. My average fuel mileage indication on the MFD now is totally inaccurate, whereas previously it was within 1-2 mpg of calculated MPG. This last tank it indicated 42MPG, my calculated was 54MPG. I called the dealer, they say they are calling Toyota to find out what gives. Frankly, unless they can fix this I am going to be missing my old fuel indicator.
