What car does your Prius replace?

My 2005 Prius replaced a 1995 Subaru Legacy L sedan [purchased in March 1998 with 26k miles, retired in May 2006 with 165k miles]; the Subaru itself replaced a family "hand me down" 1981 Honda Civic 1300, which died with about 181k miles on it.

40k miles on the Prius so far, and loving it.

Do Americans even know what/who doctor WHO (excuse the pun) is? I thought it was more of a British thing.

 

2001 Volvo S80 T6 that I'd had not quite 3 years when I was in an accident. I didn't think it was too bad, but, lo and behold, State Farm declared it a total loss. So, I got a nice check for not nearly what it was worth to me.

Well, I had considered a hybrid when I got it a few yrs ago, so now was my "big chance". (Beside, I've earned a couple of speeding tickets, and it's time for me to slow down.) I just put down the deposit today, and expect a 2008 Barcelona Red/Bisque Pkg 6 in the next week.

I've really enjoyed visiting here, and look forward to this new community!

 

We replaced our 1998 Honda Civic with our 2008 Magnetic Grey Prius with the "B" package. I just retired from active electrical work which means that my big 2000 GMC Savanna company van which I took home at night and weekends is also being replaced by the Prius. Compared to both vehicles, the Prius is a nice wonderful change. The Civic is now used by my son as it has much more life in it and he needs an inexpensive car at the moment.

My prius replaced a 1981 honda accord. The honda was a great car but it was getting harder to find replacement parts. And with 135k the clutch could have gone out at any moment.

I don't miss the Honda - with freeway driving at 80mph, the Honda could never keep up. Plus the lack of good brakes, airbags, abs, etc. Since I only had maybe 80hp (with a tailwind) on a 1.8L carburated engine, driving the Prius is like driving a sportscar in comparison. :lol:

my prius replaces two cars... a 2000 jetta/ 5 speed with 34-38mpg and a 97 sable station wagon/ auto 23-27mpg. both cars were good and i enjoyed driving them but i needed a newer vehicle and wanted a true jump in technology and efficiency. the other hybrids gave me better technology but no improvement in efficiency plus the other hybrids are the first generation toyota technology. i am currently getting about 50mpg in 30-50 degree weather using 89 gas.... i am testing to see if i get better mileage with a grade higher gas

 

I just replaced my Ford F250 truck with an 08 Barcelona Red Touring Edition with package 6. My wife has had an 06 Super White #7 Prius for 1 1/2 years now. The only reason I even had that monster truck was to pull our 26 foot camping trailer. It really bothered me to have to drive it around as a daily driver though, as it only got about 14MPG in the city, and cost me around $70 or more every time I had to fill it up. Well we just got rid of the trailer and I wasted NO time in trading off the truck. Let me tell you, that first $24 fill-up on the Prius left a tear in my eye.

We're now a 2 Prius family and I couldn't be happier.

 

My 07 Prius replaced my 03 Honda CRV. I really, really hated to part with my CR-V but I could by the Prius for the same amount of money as it would take to replace the CR-V and my gas bill dropped in 1/2. It was strictly an economic decision.

 

My 2008 Prius replaced my 1997 Acura 3.2TL with 177,000 miles. I loved the Acura; it ran great and had almost no problems. It made economic sense to purchase the Prius now given that I wanted to replace the car before it got to 200,000 miles, avoided the $1,000-180K service, brakes for $500, extra cost for gas of $1,000 over Prius, and deduct for the higher insurance cost for my Prius of $120-total one year cost avoidance of $2,380.

A '92 Honda Accord EX sedan. We loved that car, but the next thing to go wrong was bound to be really expensive. A warranty, a 5-door hatch, and 55+ MPG with a Prius...the only question is why we waited so long.

 

I sold my 2000 Jeep Liberty, and bought my Prius. I really loved that Jeep. It had heated leather seats that I really miss. My Prius has leather, but no heat. I'll find out this winter if I miss the 4wd the Jeep had. I hope the Prius does well in the snow with front weel drive.

I like the Prius so much that I really want to trade my 2005 Ford Ranger for another one. Wife says we need to keep the truck since we own a house. I'd rather have another Prius.

 

Traded my 2001 Mercury Sable, and lousy 20 MPG average for a 2008 Prius. Just filled my tank for the first time yesterday and averaged 51.55 MPG. At current gas prices I will save $1,600 a year. Couldn't be happier with my decision.

 

I just traded in my 2001 Nissan Pathfinder for a 2008 Prius Touring. I'm getting 3 times the mpg and hope it's not a hinderance in the winter, but I'm happy with my choice so far.

 

I just traded my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee on Sat for the new (to us) 2005 Prius. My fiance and I drive to work together so I watch our mpg consistantly. We went from 17.7mpg in the jeep to a great 44.2mpg in the Prius, I hope to get better mpgs once the weather warms and maybe some tips from members here. I have a Suburban also and I will miss the extra 4x4 for when my Fiance and I go 4wheeling, but I'm quickly loving the Prius and it will pay for itself soon in gas milage and maintenence.

My 2007 Prius will indirectly replace a 1984 (yes, 1984) Oldsmobile Station Wagon with wood tone paneling and that great National Lampoon Vacation look to it. It's my wife's daily driver and uses probably about 0.125 gallons per mile in town. On the highway, it actually gets an impressive 16 - 20 mpg on level ground. But the $75-$100 per week in gas for it is unacceptable.
