I'm getting ready to purchase my first Prius (2006). Could some kind Samaritan help me by running a Carfax check on it? JTDKB20U863173855 Many thanks in advance!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(slmnhq @ Oct 26 2007, 01:39 PM) </div> If you are too poor to spend $25 on a Carfax, how can you afford a Prius, even a used two years old one?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(slmnhq @ Oct 26 2007, 04:39 PM) </div> This has to be the most humorous post of the day.
There's an import board that I'm on that usually has at least one person with CarFax at any given time. I'll see if anyone can look that VIN up. EDIT: Man.. people are quick. Here you go: http://www.carfax.com/viewEmailReport.do?a...bxvhtbDgDaCTSi3
Something is smelling awfully trollish here. <_< 1) First post 2) Wants to "purchase my first Prius (2006)" 3) Member profile shows 2008 package 9 (Latest model and highest package . . . troll fingerprint) 4) Wants you to send them something Does someone here read Chinese? Because a Google search on that VIN comes back with a .cn hit along with the English word Carfax. http://www.google.com/search?q=JTDKB20U863173855 Are they fishing for someone to send them a copy of a Carfax which could (?) disclose personal information about the 'Good Samaritan' ??? Be careful folks, social engineering catches lots of disarmed folks off guard. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_engine...puter_security) [reported for mods to investigate further]
I think he's just cheap. The IP address indicated on the Chinese page is from Comcast in the US, so he just may speak Chinese. It looks like that topic is for asking for free Carfax reports. The board software defaults to the latest year and highest package, so if the person registering doesn't set it that's what their profile shows. (2008 #9)
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(liznowen @ Oct 26 2007, 04:32 PM) </div> I doubt it. He's checking to see if someone has purchased a 30 day unlimited VIN check for $30 and can just have them run the #. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(jk450 @ Oct 26 2007, 06:45 PM) </div> It's not so humorous. These types of requests used to be made on other car message boards I'm on almost daily. In fact http://www.my350z.com/forum/forumdisplay.p...mp;daysprune=-1 was even a forum dedicated to this. They don't allow it anymore but people still posts some of these requests on other parts of the board.
Wow... sorry if I offended folks by asking for a VIN check as a favor! Yes, it sounded cheap. BUT - I did have a 30-day Carfax subscription and it EXPIRED TWO days before I found an agreeable Prius on Craigslist. I did not want to renew that subscription for another month to check just one freaking VIN. (Thank you to the two posters who realized that). As for those who made a stink about me being cheap, or this being a funny post, I say, get off your high-horses. To the Chinese conspiracy-theorist, I say: "Booo!!"
