Hello This is my first post on this forum and i am trying to decide if the Prius is right for me. My wife and I hold on to cars for 15yrs .Currently she drives 17500 miles per year.What are peoples thoughts regarding longevity(250,000miles)and not spending huge sums of money in maintenance?
I did not purchase a Prius expecting the car to fail. That said, I also obtained 100K warranty, because stuff happens. I would check the maintainence schedule to see where Toyota places its focus. I would also 'Google' Prius taxis; there are a number of articles about Prius going in excess of 250K (and without battery replacement) Unsure if this helps... I keep cars about 150K, and I hope you can make 250K... Art
Think of it this way: 250K miles divided by 30 mpg = 8,333 gallons times $2.79 per gallon = $23,249.99. You could have hadda PRIUS with NO V-8! and $13,950 @ 50 MPG. That's nearly $10K in gas alone! The maintenance tail on the Prius is nominal compared to other vehicles according to this old Edmunds article, but it really depends on what you've been driving. Do the leg work for yourself--but the warranty speaks volumes. compare your current vehicle, current year if you wish and work it backwards.
Would help to know more about your wife's driving habits/needs. But assuming your main concern is longevity and maintenence cost I'd say the Prius would be great for you. As with the math above, in the VERY unlikely circumstances that you need to replace the HV battery in that 250k miles it'll run you around $4500 for a new one (probably less, but that's the current new dealer installed no-negotiation price) or $500-1000 for a salvage.
The Prius is currently rated as the most reliable mid-sized family car by Consumer Reports. Toyotas are good, and it appears the Prius is the best of the Toyotas.

Connecticut is one of the states which adopted California's emissions standards, so you would get the 10 year 150,000 warranty for the battery and other emission related components.
