Does anybody know of any reviews that outline some performance data for the Prius. A number of colleagues say it must be like driving a golf cart. I am happy I can defend its fuel economy claimes but it would be nice to have more info on performance. I only have the 0-62 mph time but I know the car performs very well for overtaking and 0-30 but have no data. Most other cars I can find this. Can anybody help.

The Swedish magazine Teknikens Värld (the guys that first rolled the A Class Mercedes) measures every car the test. These are their results from the 08-2006 issue where they tested the Prius against the HCH. The original numbers are KPH with MPH in parenthesis: 0-50kph (31mph): 4.0s 0-70kph (43mph): 6.2s 0-100kph (62mph): 10.7s 0-130kph (81mph): 17.4s 0-160kph (100mph): 29.7s 70-130kpm (43-81mph): 11.2 0-402m (1/4 mile): 17.7s/131.1kph (84.46mph) The magazine comments that the HCH battery is so weak it can only take two full throttle accelerations. The Prius beats the HCH on all acceleration figures. ADDITIONAL: I should also mention that the noticed much better numbers for the 06 Prius than when they tested to 04 Prius. Don't know wether Toyota made any changes between those years, but apparently the Prius got quicker. -Stein

Another figure you might like to quote them, I had a noise meter in my car and stopped at traffic lights with no other cars around and the radio off the noise level in the Prius was about 55dbA. I'm sure if I got out the noise levels would be lower.
I took my Prius to the local drag strip and raced it in some ugly conditions, high heat and humidity. The numbers were all across the board which I thnk had to do with how hot the inverter was or wasn't for each race as well as SOC (state of charge). My best time is in my sig. My worst time was 18.4 or something silly. The ET is horrid due to the terrible 60' times of 2.6-2.7. The car just won't come out of the hole quickly and as such my ET suffers. The MPH is good enough for a 16sec. ET though. If I can find some stock lug nuts soon I'd like to take it out once more in nice cool temps and a low DA.

must admit it does seem slow when trying to overtake something theres nothing there for the first second or so of foot flat to the floor Is there a technique for getting the ICE at max just before performing an overtake?

Speaking of quiet. I'm a new prius owner. The other day I was doing my usual, open the garage door with the homelink, and back into the driveway and garage. While still in the street, I heard this rattling noise. After a minute I figured out that what I was hearing was the garage door. I've never heard the garage door from the car before. That's how quiet this car is !!!!!!!!!

For example, 5-60mph (street start) time is the same as 0-60mph. Prius is the first car that the street start is NOT slower than 0-60, that I am aware of. 30-50mph and 50-70mph numbers are useful to compare also.
It would be fun to see someone start tuning the Prius for performance. Toyota's stock setup is clearly not geared towards best 0-60, but toward best economy. I'd be willing to bet the car is capable of a lot more if someone took the time to figure it all out. For starters, I'd probably beef up the HV wiring to reduce voltage sag, and you'd probably have to reprogram the HV ECU to bring on the electric motor torque faster. According to Toyota's own motor curves, the electric motor should have more torque off the line than most sports cars. You just have to figure out how to convince the controller to use it. Maybe need to upgrade the Battery/Inverter cooling system? I can see it now, a prius with a hood scoop to direct outside air over the inverter cooler :lol: I know Toyota TRD put an Echo engine in a Prius at one point, and I've also seen folks putting turbos on Echos..... It would be pretty sweet to see someone running 14s in a Prius, keeping up with the WRXs and still getting double the mileage My WRX struggles to get 18-20, so it may not be that aggressive a target. The TRD folks I believe reported that the Echo engine only dropped the MPG by ~10%. Not bad for almost double the HP. Rob
