I'm looking to get a phone that works with my brand spanking new Prius. And I've seen several posts about the various Bluetooth phones -- and their strengths and weaknesses. So yesterday I borrowed my friends Sony Ericsson t637 (Cingular.) It was a snap to set up, and it seemed to work quite well in all respects (connecting, dialing out, sound quality, displaying signal strength, etc...) except one: The prius refused to RING though the car speakers when I received a call. The phone itself rang (or vibrated, when I set it to that.) But I couldn't get it to ring through the car. I have heard of this being a problem with a few other phones, but was under the impression that the t637 was one of the "fully working" BT phones out there (with the exception of transferring your complete phonebook to the car, I understand that has to be done one entry at a time.) Or maybe I did something wrong..? Before I take the plunge and get a phone, I want to be sure I've got the best model for my Prius. So any advice on the subject would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, BluepointVance
Wow! This could have been written by myself. I'm a brand new (very impressed overall) Prius owner who just bought a Sony-Ericsson T637 and have Cingular coverage. When I first set up the phone in my car the ringing worked fine in the car. I then uploaded my address book into the car and that too worked fine. For some reason the incoming car ringing feature quit. I went to the cingular people and a guy messed with it for a long time but he couldn't make it work either. He suggested I return the phone as he thought it must be a phone malfunction. All other features seem to work perfectly but I keep the phone in the top tray of the center console and am afraid I won't be able to hear it. I hope we find an expert to bail us out, I'm kind of computer challenged and wouldn't be surprised if there was a real simple solution........ If you figure it out or get an answer in some other venue please post it here
i am considering several blue tooth phones and the T637 is one of them (currently Cingular has them available for practically nothing and its a GREAT deal) do you have any other complaints about the phone? although the phone doesnt ring through the stereo, does it mute the stereo when you receive a call?
Recently I bought a Sony Ericsson K700i. Works well in the Prius Business Edition (#9). Except ringing through the speakers in the car. So: same problem... (it mutes the audio though). Jan
does anyone know what cellphone format works best with the Prius? the difference bet GSM/GRDA with Cingular and ATT or CDMA with Verizon and Sprint PCS?
I was going to get the t637 for the Prius and I have Cingular too, so I'd really appreciate any info on what Cingular phones work well in our car.
WUSB (wireless universal serial bus)?? jk... it is however just around the corner and will no doubt replace BT so i would not invest too much money into the technology. WUSB will run at 480Mbps (BT runs at 1Mbps) will be compatible with more computer equipment and with the extra bandwidth will hopefully encourage auto manufacturers to provide more info about the car through this medium. the bandwidth should make swapping disks a thing of the past. now you should be able to go online download an update to your WUSB compatible computer or portable drive and then wirelessly transmit your update to your car. look for this technology to replace BT in the next generation of Prius
I finally bit the bullet and got the Sony- Ericsson T637 with Cingular...I couldn't find the Motorola V600 since they [Cingular] don't sell it anymore. When I just looked in the Nav manual to set it up, there is a part that says to enter 'passkey 1212'. Do I have to do it? I'm afraid somehow I will have to start using pass numbers to use my phone and I have enough trouble remembering my own name let alone more passwords/numbers. Thank you..
You just need the passkey number to set it up, then you can forget it (like I did til you mentioned it...). Good Luck..
Thank you on the passkey info..my first attempt was a failure, so I will try again tomorrow. I think the problem is that I had the T637 manual out and the Prius manual out and I was trying to do a little bit out of each. Maybe I should try to delete everything I have in the phone from today, and just do what they ask for out of the NAV manual. I'm 61 and I think some of my smarts were left in the forties! Any hints are always welcome...it doesn't help that I'm new to the cellphone and NAV both.
