Does anyone know if the Coastal Tech 2" hitch fits the 2008 Prius Classic? It's the hitch at http://www.coastaletech.com/04hitch.htm I have a brand spankin' new 2008 and am rarin' to get going on putting a hitch on it, but can't get them to respond to save my life (phone or email - left messages at both). Thanks, Joseph
As far as I know, the U-Haul/Curt hitch only comes in the 1.25", not the 2". I would prefer not to have to put an adapter on to get to the 2" that I need for some of my attachments, like the bike rack. Does the U-Haul/Curt come in a 2" version? I'll check tomorrow at the local U-Haul. Thanks. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Devil's Advocate @ Oct 19 2007, 04:53 PM) </div>
You should check out these two threads which talk about success and failure with the coastal hitch. thread 1 thread 2 I had a very bad experience with the 2" version while using a thule trailblazer rack. I recommend against using the 2" coastal receiver with bike rack without some modification to make it better handle that type of load. One of the threads shows a great idea for modifying it. The curt 1 1/4 design looks much sturdier than the coastal one. YMMV.
I have the Curt hitch. The modified one, to solve the exhaust interference issue. It is a well designed hitch with a nice paint coating. From the photo's of the Coastal hitch it is not very well engineered. I got a nice three bike rack and is very light. I forgot the brand, but I will post photos in a couple days.

I just traded in my 2004 Prius with a Coastaletech 2" hitch on a new 2008 Prius Classic. I had the hitch transferred from the 2004 to the 2008, Fits just fine! Enjoy! BTW I have a two bike carrier for 2-40 lb bikes. Works fine. If you have a 4 bike carrier, search some of the news groups to see how to reinforce to avoid bending from having an extended heavy load.
