Here's what I paid at Alexandria Toyota (Alexandria, VA). Price: $22,267 Tag fees: $109 Processing Fee: $279 Local tax: $45 ------------------ Total $22,700 out the door (I live in DC so there's no sales tax.) This was for a package #2 2008. I dealt with Tabitha Harris, who was efficient and professional. --sam

I got an offer of $23995 for a Base Prius with Package 3 here in NJ. Is that a good deal? The dealer told me that TFS rate is around 7%+ for a 5-year financing. I thought the rates are around 6% right now?

I just brought home a 2008 Prius with package #5 in Seaside Pearl: MSRP: $26464.00 Price: $24152.00 Tax: $1207.00 Fees: $199.00 TTL: $65.60 Total (OTD): $25623.60 I negotiated the price entirely via Internet, by emailing with about 10 dealers in Boston area. I finally got the above offer from Mike Boucher at Toyota of Watertown. I received an excellent service.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(rz1 @ Oct 24 2007, 07:01 PM) </div> That is an incredible deal. The price you got OTD is the price I am getting out here in California. Can you offer me some tips?
Lots of it depends on the state of the dealer and the sales person at the time (their quota, their stock, market conditions, etc.). That's why you should try to target a large number of them initially and then narrow your search. For what's worth, this is what has worked for me repeatedly over the years (bought a hybrid Camry for my wife last year the same way but from a different dealer): - do your research and determine the exact package, color, etc (or your 1st, 2'd, 3'rd choice). If you need to test drive, see colors, etc, try it on one or few dealers before you start your on-line search. But make it clear that you are not ready to get into purchasing negotiation. - start from Toyota.com and issue queries to a number of dealers in your area. Be prepared to give out an email and phone. Expect lot sof traffic on these channel (I use an email shield and distribute aliases that I can shut off after I buy the car to avoid spam) - be transparent! Let them know you are searching wide for lowest price. Keep referring to invoice price (from kelley.com, etc) and ignore MSRP completely (use it as reference when they send you their quotes to verify the car options, etc) - Avoid going to dealers in person. This saves you time and it's much easier to say no online! (I met Mike for the first time when I want to pay for the car!). - If possible, be ready to pay cash and let them know that (for example have a pre-approved loan from your bank). It makes the process go much faster and the dealer knows you are serious. - As you receive offer from some, distribute it to others (without mentioning the name of the dealers) and ask if they can offer lower. BTW, I asked Mike last night if it's OK for me to distribute his name/dealership name online and he said yet. He even gave me a stack of his biz cards! - Once you get a reasonable offer, set that dealer aside as your last resort (in case you run into a bad experience with others!). Let him know you need more time and continue working on others. - In your email interactions: - Explicitly ask for all other expenses as part of the negotiation. Sometimes the lowest offer is only to get you to the dealership and then other charges kick in - ask them to be specific if the car is on their lot or expected to arrive in future I personally never put down deposit for a future car so that I can freely search around (unless I know the market is very tight and cannot find the car anywhere) - in many cases the dealer inventory is online and you can varify what they tell you (but not all inventories are up to date) - At the very end (when you go to pay), the dealer with the lowest offer usually tries a very hard sell on additional items such as Extended Care, pre-paid service, paint protection, tire protection, lo-jack, etc, etc. In my case, I roughly added it up to about $4000.00. JUST SAY NO! Sorry for the lengthy post. Good luck and happy shopping!

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(snsdc @ Oct 20 2007, 10:27 AM) </div> Does Virginia state NOT have a state sales tax? The Calif sales tax would be at least $1800+ on your vehicle. It would be worth it for me to fly to Virginia, buy a Prius, and drive back to Calif for $1800+. It would be a free "Tour America in your [Chevrolet] Prius"
You'd better check out what the great state of California would charge you when you got back here. I think that you'd probably have to pay quite a bit to register it here. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(LYLUVLY @ Oct 26 2007, 01:42 PM) </div>
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(rz1 @ Oct 25 2007, 09:14 AM) </div> You're right about that. A few weeks ago Mike Boucher was not interested in even countering a low price I got from another dealer on a package #2.
Hi We paid exactly $23,205 for the 2008 package 2 in Middletown, CT today (10-26-07) Sticker was $23, 789.00 plus convenance, dock fee and small others. When done haggling I was able to get them to $23,000 even then they through in the conveyance fee of $205. There was no sales tax in CT on this vehicle and I am registering it my self in a different state I was amazed they even bargained at all as there seem to be so few in CT and they sell very fast Wille
I paid $22,612 plus $142 doc fee for my Silver Prius Package #2 with Floor Mats and Rear Bumper Applique. I went to Milo at Team Toyota in Highland, IN. I'm from the Northern Chicago area, but it was worth the drive and was right over the Indiana/Illinois border on 80/94 or 90. Since they are in Indiana and I'm in Chicago. I think I may have been able to get a little bit more off, but I like to let dealers make a little. I paid the actual rates for taxes and will do the License and Title at the Secretary of State (DMV in IL) myself. No surprises no hidden fees. Good and professional.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(155 @ Oct 27 2007, 07:21 PM) </div> I just paid $26,300 minus fees for my '08 with package 6 about 3 hours ago. I even got the dealer to throw in tint for free (have to schedule to have it installed).
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(mimosa @ Oct 26 2007, 12:58 PM) </div> You're right. Now, I remember- my son bot a Mercedes in Newport Beach and he lives in Scottsdale, AZ The dealer drove the Mercedes to the AZ border and exchanged the keys for a check. The sales tax is quite a bit less in AZ than in Calif, but AZ does not have the selection. [Newport Beach MBZ is the biggest in the USA]
I am in the Seattle area, and just purchased a 2008 Prius Touring Edition, Magnetic Gray, Package 6, with carpet + rear bumper applique for $27,000. The dealer was Burien Toyota and Matthew Beck. It wasn't high pressure, we mostly worked over email, and once I put a deposit down for a factory order, they just happened to find a Mag Gray and got it for me in a day. The other dealers in the Seattle area won't even talk to me short of $29K for a Magnetic Gray.
3 year/36,000 mile lease for a 2008 Silver Basic package 2. Down payment at lease signing:$2000 Monthly payment:$350 including tax, Tag fees, Processing Fee
On Friday 10/26/2007 in Olathe, KS (suburb of Kansas City) 2008 Barcelona Red with Pkg # 5 Final Price $25,500 Which is really the only price that matters as everyones dealer screws you fees (mine were $299.50) will vary and of course sales tax. Also, with an approved E-Loan at 6.99% for 72 months, Toyota Financial matched at 6.9% financing! Previously there were 7.9% for 72 months as their best rate. Tier 1 credit rating. 80 miles on it so far - LOVE IT!!! Going to try not to obsess over MPG on every tank - it will be significantly better than the 21 mpg I was getting on my V-6 Accord the past 2 years. And one other thing (and I'm far from a left wing liberal) but lets not forget that the emissions (or lack thereof) on the Prius!!! It's not just about MPG..... Plus the NAV system is really cool!!
