Sorry, no I don't go to SDSU. I actually take online courses through SJSU for a masters in library science.

I live about 20 blocks west of SDSU. Most of the Universities in the area have closed. I have no idea about Wed. but my guess is nothing is going to be open tomorrow either. If schools aren't closed due to fire proximity they are closed because they are evacuation centers. Even if they snuffed out every fire today, I don't think they would want people on the roads for mundane reasons like going to class, shopping or tourism. e-mail your professor about your major test to confirm, but I'm guessing you got a reprieve to study some more. Use it well, grasshopper.

Like Godiva I live in the heart of San Diego, actually about a mile from SDSU. I work though in Poway, which was 2/3 evacuated yesterday (maybe more today). I got to work at 7am Monday and was told to leave by 7:05. I tried to get to work today, but each road had barriers and cop cars. I suggest going on line to see if SDSU will be open. There must be several websites with information like that.

Makes you glad you have a Prius, for the range alone.

Sorry, don't know what school or district she's in.

And SDSU is canceled for the remainder of the week. There is talk of canceling a football game on Saturday but permission needs to come from the league or something.

The Santa Ana has officially broken. We are getting breezes from the west. The weatherman predicts the fires will never cross I-5 and never reach the coast.

I-15 is open and I'm driving up tonight to pick up my parents' dog so she can be waiting for them when they get in tonight.

We have four C-130s on the ground at Pt. Magoo from Wyoming, Colorado and N. Carolina. They'll be loaded with fire retardant tonight and fly out at first light to start major fire fighting.

The freeways in the greater Los Angeles area are good; I drive from Oxnard up to Santa Barbara every day, and the 101 is open, and well west of any fire danger. Its been bad in the Ventura/Oxnard area in terms of air quality, but that appears to be easing tonight. I can see stars, and we have our cool on-shore breeze back (Oxnard is about 30 miles north of Malibu on the California coast).

I would hold off visiting San Diego for a week or two if you can. Once the fires are out the situation will be good down there pretty quickly because all the infrastructure is still in place. While the total number of people displaced is horrible, and its the largest disaster in California history, it won't be hard to find gasoline, hospitals or any other needed services in the area. Our fires are horrible and certainly devastating to those that lose loved ones or property, but they don't do the kind of general devastation that a hurricane like Katrina did.

You can't miss it. It's a big windmill on the east side of the freeway.

Andersen's are the people that make the canned soup. Only the restaurant is better. They're like Marie Calendar's. They started as a restaurant and then started packaging their stuff to sell in stores.

I had the best cheeseburger I ever ate in my life at that Pea Soup Andersen's by Solvang.

And yes, if you've got a little time, do Solvang.

I can't. It's either next Thurs or never lol. (well not never but I don't know when the next time I'll be in SoCal anyway). So hopefully it's done by next week and that the evacuees can return home. I can't imagine have an burning inferno in your backyard.

It is (or was) owned by BobA's family but it is a bit more than a cafe.
