Sorry if this topic is already here, buried somewhere. A quick search turned up nothing... My Coastal EV mod is going haywire and I need to take it out. It repeated tries to engage without me pulling on the CC stalk and it's A.) really annoying B.)knackering my battery's SOC C.)disconcerting Has anyone removed the little bugger? What's the best way to eradicate it? Simply remove the wire taps and patch up the wires with electrical tape?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(tripp @ Oct 20 2007, 02:20 PM) </div> Well, if I were to remove the device, I'd leave the taps in place rather than removing them and taping the bare spot left on the wire. They won't hurt anything and you might cause the wire to break while trying to remove them. Simply pull the spade terminals out of the taps. The pin inserted into the receptacle is hard to remove. I'd just cut the green wire leaving about an inch sticking out in case I ever wanted to reinstall the device. Just tuck the short wire into the bundle of other wires and it won't cause any trouble.
Glad for this topic as I realized mine is no longer working. Anybody have this problem with Coastal EV Mod? Lee
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Gadgetdad @ Oct 21 2007, 12:26 AM) </div> One time for me, the end where the wires all come together got caught in the glove box door, which slightly pulled the entire plug out of the thing it plugs into, so perhaps check the connections of the switch and the entire plug. Also, it sometimes acts weird when I click the cruise button on and off.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Gadgetdad @ Oct 20 2007, 09:26 PM) </div> Mine no longer functions. I thought it was an issue with loose wires, but when I try to get into EV mode during a time when I previously could, nothing happens. No screen change, no ICE off, nothing. If I try to enter EV mode at 70 mph on the freeway, or during warm-up or some other time I know I can't, I get the "cannot change to EV mode" messege.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(bad monkey @ Nov 6 2007, 02:43 PM) </div> Mine misbehaves too. There are times when I know it should go into EV mode and it does nothing. Don't even get the little "beep-beep" saying "no-can-do", don't even get "EV DENY" on the CAN-view. Yet other times it works just fine, haven't been able to identify a rhyme or reason yet.
I cannot get mine into EV mode except on startup, and sometimes not even then (Battery appears to have adequate charge). Had it in about a month now.
Well gosh... I was seriously considering the Coastal EV mod, but what is going on with all of these malfunctions? Is this mod a go or no-go? How do I prevent these issues? Seems like no one can figure out why it goes haywire.
Mine quit working after 5 months of use and disabled my CC for a while, I couldn't engage it. Solution, carefully, I removed the spade connectors leaving the butts in place. Now CANView switches into EV mode at all times automatically, but a Raudio Shuck $2.50 pushbutton momentary switch does the same job shorting pin #27 to ground.
