Hmm... I think so - though it can be a bit violent occasionally.

Operative: "Do you really believe that?"

    Mal: "I do."

Operative: "You willing to die for that belief?"

Mal: "I am." (pulls out his gun and shoots at the Operative repeatedly) "Course, that ain't exactly Plan A."

Newcomer! Due to this thread, saw my first episode this weekend. Now seeking out the remainder of the season. I'm hoping Blockbuster has it. Loved it.

Never got into 24 much, but *loved* the Firefly show. Firefly is a PG-10 I'd say.

However, learned about Browncoats just now !

There is an episode with some torture that you might want to prescreen, but if Buffy and Angel aren't a problem, it won't be.

Whedon is a genius; I never watched Firefly and haven't seen Serenity, but my youngest daughter is a confirmed fan (there was even a group of young people here watching Serenity one night, but they were wearing me out with their chatter ... I knew I didn't want to watch it with them).

His early work on Buffy ... the TV series ... is where I first noticed him. Very cutting edge that first season when gained creative control. The series deteriorated later on, but it was very sharp at first. My BIL worked on both Buffy and Angel.

He has a new film in development ... "Goners". Anyone heard anything about it?

I, too, like Joss Whedon's work. I was always kind of embarrassed to admit that I liked Buffy, but there was a lot of wit in the writing of that show, and I loved how cheerful many of the villains were. So many fictional villains are so dour. I especially liked the mayor (the one who turns into a sort of snake monster). Also Spike was great. And Druscilla was wonderful. After they graduated from high school the show went way downhill.

The great downfall of that show was the casting of Buffy and Angel. Sarah Geller was really pretty decent when she was playing the teen-ager who just wants a normal life. But she was so utterly abysmal in the fight scenes that it was pathetic. All she could manage was a half-hearted waist-high side kick of the sort that they teach you if you take one judo lesson. And David Boreanz is one of the most untalented actors in the already dismal field of TV.

Imagine what that show could have been if they had cast a teen-age Angelina Jolie as Buffy. They needed a dancer for that role. The Hong Kong kung-fu movie producers understand this, and typically draw their fighters from the Chinese circus. Acrobats.

Sarah Geller should have been cast as a minor vampire character and staked in the first episode or two. She's pretty, but she was a terrible choice for Buffy.

Whedon apparently learned his lesson when he cast the girl who played River. (He really seems to like little girls who kick big men's butts.)

I enjoyed both the series and the movie of Firefly.
