So there are 3 Prii that park in my work's 100 car parking lot now (not bad), and I noticed something interesting about one of them. It didn't have keyholes, but it also didn't have a black button on the door handles either! Is this a different SKS system? Does anyone have such a Prius, and how do the locks work? Mine has a little black button on the handles that lets you lock the doors when you press it.
Probably the basic vehicle without SKS. They have to lock/unlock the door with the remote or mechanical key, and then plug the keyfob into the dash.
I have 1 keyhole in mine, in the whole car. The only key lock on the whole car is in the drivers side (my right but left for most of you) front door and I have no black button because I have a basic model which hasn't got the smart key.
Not sure about different Prius, there's only two body styles on the road so far. My Dept. assigned) 2004 # 1, it didnt have the black button on the handle. My (personal) 2004 # 7, had the button. As with most vehicles any changes added where very minor interior and optional additions. Type- 1 (2000 - 2003) US model: Type- 2 (2004 - 2008) US model: Can someone else add the info on the different models? ie; #1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 & 9. Also the base model vs the touring? Thank you.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(patsparks @ Oct 19 2007, 01:19 AM) </div> Has anyone added a mechanical lock on the passenger side door? I've had trouble with older cars where the lock on the driver's side stopped working. Using the remote would seem to let crud collect in the mechanical slot even more than normal. So I'd feel safer if there was a backup mechanical lock in addition to the one on the driver's door.
Big Doh moment here: I never noticed the passenger side had no keyhole. Lovely mental picture: my SKS (and remote opening) breaks so all I can do is use the metal key to get in and plug the fob into the dash, but somebody parks too close to my driver's door so I can't get in even if there's 500ft of clearance around the other three sides...
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(mikepaul @ Oct 20 2007, 01:44 AM) </div> brick key may be the only option. You smash the window of the clown who parked too close and roll their car out the way.

You can add a plug to the drivers door if you want to. Scroll down a bit for the door plugs. http://www.bumperplugs.com/BPindex.html
