I bought my RAV4 EV in July. Every morning I'm smug when I pull the charge paddle out of the front grille of my car and have the ability to drive 100 miles gasoline free. You wanna see smug? Watch me laughing from afar at a Prius owner buying gas. On a side note, I also laugh at cocaine addicts who are smug because they use less cocaine than most cocaine addicts. Nate
Not bad, but how much are you paying for electricity? Depending on the price, some of us prius drivers may be laughing instead
$20 worth of electricity takes my car about 1,000 miles. How far does $20 worth of gasoline take your Prius? ;-) Nate
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Bob64 @ Oct 16 2007, 10:43 AM) </div> Darell uses EV panels to power his EVs...click on his site in his sig, tons of info there.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Bob64 @ Oct 16 2007, 08:43 AM) </div> Because this is all about money, right? Oh... and I *am* a Prius owner/driver as well, so I can tell you with certainty that a 50 mpg gasoline car costs WAY more to operate than an EV. It also does quite a bit more environmental damage, and keeps us dependent on oil. Suffice it to say that the Prius doesn't get driven much. It is down there fourth on the list of prioritized transportation options. Fear not. Even if I *were* paying for my electricity, it would cost significantly less to power my EV than it costs to power any gasoline car. But as others have mentioned - my power comes from my roof-top PV panels (right, Pvan?) Next year my PV system will be totally paid off, and my electricity truly will be (basically) free for me. How's that compare to the projected future price and availability if gasoline? I agree that buying gas is still the better bargain though. The price you pay at the pump has almost nothing to do with the actual cost associated with gasoline use. You get a lot more for your dollar at the gas pump because the rest of society pays the costs of security, health, tax breaks for exploration, etc.

Anyone here live in the Florida Keys, or am I it?

I plug in my Xebra when I get home, which takes me about 10 or 15 seconds. It charges itself for as long as it takes. Then I unplug it when I want to drive, which takes another 10 or 15 seconds. That's 20 to 30 seconds each time I drive. And as a bonus, I never have to stand out in the cold to "fuel" it, since I'm in my garage when I plug it in or unplug it. So, what's electricity cost in the Florida Keys?
