Weird thing happened on my drive home from the car wash today. I wanted to turn up the volume on the radio and none of the controls responded. First tried steering wheel controls, then the nob and nothing worked. Finally I touched the Audio button and noticed it switched to the audio screen without beeping, which it's never done before. I switched between several other screens too, and it didn't beep, and the steering wheel controls continued to not work. When I got to a red light I decided to "reboot". I powered the car off and back on again (which for some reason doesn't seem like as a big of a deal as it would in a regular car). After that everything worked normally. I wish I knew what caused the odd behavior, and I seriously hope it was a fluke and I never see it again. Anyone else had to do a "reboot"? once in 7000 miles have i had an issue that required a reboot. i have to say that's a much better track record than my Win98 machine.... and before i hear upgrade cries, its one of 5 machines i have and its around as a file server and for the office suite on it, plus a few others that are not compatible with XP
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(lpleiss\";p=\"52013)</div> That's how my MFD problems began. For several weeks after the first incident, everything was fine. Then it happened again, and then more and more frequently until the MFD screen never responded at all. Had it replaced today. All is now well.
Same thing happened to me exactly once so far. I reported it under the heading "Strange Audio Problem" either here or at priusonline.com. This prompted a whole string of responses. Apparently it is a common problem, at least ONE time. I have not heard any reports of this being a recurrent problem. Some have noted that this was the first step in the failure of their multifunction display, but I wonder if that is a different issue. The steering wheel controls also failed during my episode, solved with a reboot. My display has never had any issues.
MORE & MORE.. the Prius reminds me of Computer Days. One of the early computer lessons was: "If you have a problem, do a "RE-BOOT" (or "Clean Boot") and frequently the problems are solved. Since our PRII are very much computer controlled, RE-BOOTING seems appropriate and sensible. Just my 2¢ worth...
Had this happen twice myself, never figured out if it was a particular sequence that triggered it, or if it was random.
