Hi all, Just wondering, has anyone on this forum ever purchased a Prius, or any other vehicle for that matter, on eBay? I am an eBay affiliate, and I have set up a website that deals in Prius sales on ebay (see signature). Any feedback would be appreciated.
I bought my son's Blazer a few years ago on ebay and also a few cars from a local new car dealer that puts his trade ins on ebay that he doesn't want to keep and then I resell them. Works out pretty good.

I bought it on eBay, you haven't heard it? You haven't lived World of Prius. Far out, I'm in sleepy Adelaide and I've heard it!!

There's another Weird Al song that's appropriate. Me? While I've bought stuff on eBay before, I'd be suspicious of big-ticket items.
we bought our es250 on ebay. the engine was bad so we got it really cheap, and DH hauled it home from across the state. paid in person, picked up in person- just to be on the safe side. it was cheap for a lexus, but not cheap as in we could afford to get scammed for that much. we're leery of that stuff.
Our son, while in Iraq serving his *cough* country, bought a truck on eBay. Never got the truck. [it was supposed to be available to be picked up by his sister, I think] Never saw his money again. Not sure how it turned out, he said he dealt with it... hopefully he sicc'd eBay on the seller. Turned out to be a scam artist that does this regularily. So... any large-ticket item, like a vehicle, I would be very skeptical. I would get the VIN before buying, I'd do the CarFax thing, I'd check out the seller's ratings, I'd TALK to the seller, if possible... and I'd have someone (third party) SEE the vehicle, if I couldn't do it myself. Anyway, I'm old-fashioned that way
If the seller allows you to Escrow the money (at your expense of course) that would be the way to go. I sold a car on eBay. I sold it local and offered people the opportunity to come over and test drive it. One couple in Poway did and they ended up being the highest bidders. Anyone who called me on the phone or e-mailed me asking what my reserve was I told them it was $3,000. And that there had been other inquiries. I bought a 1960 Cadillac Sedan de Ville for $1500 from a local private seller. Had the carburator cleaned and sparkplugs, wires and rotor (?) replaced. Also belts replaced and a tune-up. At the time I was taking a neighbor to work before school and picking him up after school. He was a mechanic and worked on the car for free so I only invested in the parts. He kept that car running in tip top shape. The car ran great for the years I had it. When I sold it I sold it on eBay...for $3,000.
I've noticed a number of fairly new Prii with salvage titles, claiming they had been repaired after suffering "minor damage". No insurance company would total a new Prius unless it had extensive damage. Be careful!
