If the radio is able to feed the MFD upwards of 20 characters on each of 2 lines (artist & title).....which I know it can because I've seen it displaying that much info off of MP3 burned CDs....then why can't it do the same for incoming info from the sat tuner?

That's not correct - take a look at a DICE kit in SAT mode. It does more than 10 characters and it scrolls. There's no reason why a Sirius kit can't do that as well.

Hmm...now that you say that I've seen that on my MP3's and CD's also.
    Weird....
The guy I talked to knew exactly what I was talking about and it was a concern of theirs because of the complaints they got.
I guess it is one of those "blame the other guy" games.

From I am told it is the Sat tuner that is the problem, only using a 10 character limit. It upsets me that a unit like this costs more than an after market unit and does less.

In my quest to get the local dealerships to realize that they can install Sirius (without mounting a sperate display somewhere) and for less than my first born child, I am hearing the part number for the reciever has changed to PTS1-00052 (From PTS1-53060). They were first telling me Sirius had been discontinued using the old part number. But calling other dealerships they seem to have come up with the part number change and are able to find and install it. YAY. I wanted to get all this done as part of the delivery so waranty would cover it all, but it has been more work than it probably would have taken to install it myself.

Does this jive with what you know Metro?

I should get my new 2007 Saturday! They are nearly impossible to get again around Austin.

You are almost all correct. The original part number was PTS31-00052 and then it was updated to PTS31-53060. Some dealers including myself sold kits for other vehicles that we knew would work on the Prius, sometimes with no modification sometimes with relatively minor modifications. Once Toyota released the kit specially for the Prius the receiver was updated at that time for all vehicles. So any dealer telling you a discontinued story sounds not very familiar with the situation. This does not surprise me after speaking with many customers around the country and hearing some of the information that was being passed around. The idea of having it installed before delivery so that warranty would cover it all is not completely correct. If you purchase an accessory (like satellite radio for instance) after taking delivery of the the vehicle and have it installed by a dealer you are then covered under whatever is left of existing warranty coverage of the vehicle. If 1 year, unlimited mileage is greater than what is left of the original warranty then you receive that length of time instead. So you can buy the accessory of your choice after delivery and still regain a rather large warranty term. You do not even have to buy the part from the dealer that you purchased the car from and you do not need to have it installed there either. You can deal with as many different dealers as you are comfortable with. Some people buy the parts from me and then have them installed local and this does not change any of the information that I just explained.

Has the "static" problem been fixed with Metro's Sirius Kit like it has with Factory Interactive?

I got mine last Saturday! I have not noticed any problems with static at all..

Oh, the three months free does work--but you do have to sign up. When I got the car the sirius was working, but then I noticed I couldn't get a lot of my usual channels. Once I called and registerred though they all came though just as clear as my old unit in my old car.

BTW I just got off the phone w/ my company's auto insurance vendor, has anyone else been getting higher rates for a Prius than other comparably priced cars? I should probably post this elsewhere....

Can you please email me the installation instructions for the Sirius kit. I ordered one from here and thought there would be a set of instructions. It is for my 2007 Prius. Thanks in advance

I will send Metro a request for installation instructions. The kit from this site didn't come with any even though I requested it. I sent an email requesting instructions to the prius chat store contact and did not receive any reply.

Buy direct from Metro if you want install instructions.

Do we know if this includes the new "stripped down" 2008 model?

Also checking the Toyota site, it's still true that "satellite radio capability" doesn't appear until Package #3. Is that just a complete scam or is there something to that?

Got instructions from Jesse and Mike today (nothing from PriusChat store). The instructions are great and really made the job easy. Took about two hours being careful. The access was easy without pulling the radio. Cut myself on the back seat sheet metal bracket (doh). Put electrical tape on the edge of the bracket to protect the cables.

You only get a subset of channels until you call in and activate the radio. Took about 15 minutes to become active.

    Found this interesting:
Subscribe for the lifetime of your radio! Pay ONLY $499.99 once and forget about bills. Plus, act soon and you can transfer your lifetime subscription to a different SIRIUS Receiver when you upgrade or replace your radio — up to three times — for only $75 per radio. Offer ends January 31, 2008. Hurry!

For what it's worth, I had the factory Sirius installed into my '08 Touring today. The dealership didn't order my factory kit, so the tech had to sub out the newer SC-C1 tuner, which is smaller, more reliable, etc. According to the tech anyway. :)

The tech mentioned that the 10-char limitation was common to Toyota/Lexus and is the head unit, not the satellite tuner. Funny thing is, I get 16-chars for both the artist and song info. I am happy enough now to not go with an external unit through the AUX jack. Yeah!

The SC-C1 tuner? Is that made for a different vehicle? Can you give some more details (such as a Toyota part-number)?

Now you have my interest with the 16 characters. Can we work a deal on the price?

Can the SC-C1 connect directly to the head unit, or do I need to purchase an additional adapter (i.e. the VAIS SL2)?

I apologize, GDM, but I was having to work while the tech did the install and I didn't see. It only took him 30 minutes and he did say, "I just plug this puppy in. I'll be right back." :D

Sorry for not having details, but I will be ripping things apart when my Shark Fin shows up and I can get more details then. It might be a bit though as I hear the antennas can take awhile.

It plugs in by itself. Just make sure you get the Toyota kit.

Yes, even the base model 08 Prius can handle a Sat kit. You'll have to ask Toyota's marketing on why it says that.
