Yeah, my housemate is on the waiting list. And SUV owners seem to feel a need to talk to me at gas stations and make sure I know that their next car is going to be a hybrid. And of course my dad, prius04 who I still owe $2k for helping me out on my downpayment! :p

Yeah, but besides selling him on the Prius (the best car he'll ever own) you showed him PriusChat. Certainly 1/2 that loan should be forgiven in payment ;-)

A guy I work with asked how I liked my car. We only had a couple of minutes though. Today I asked when he was going to get one. He is waiting for the Highlander Hybrid.
    me: "Like the bigger vehicles?"
    him: "Yes, I'm evil".
me:"But trying to become less evil"
    him: "Yep"

Now I have to say that he isn't the smallest of people. Perhaps a Prius would be a bit of a squeeze. I'm glad there is an improved alternative for him.

I have sold one for sure, 3 more in waiting stage. My parents experienced mine this summer and seemed impressed. When Dad recently decided it was time get a new vehicle I asked him about his thoughts on the Prius. I then suggested he do what he has not done in years - go to the various dealers and really see what is available. It took a few months to generate a short list of maybe's, and several trips to Toyota dealers trying to see or drive a Prius again before it was sold. After a few near misses (the Prius was gone by the time they got there), I was surprised to learn they actually bought an '05, have 500 miles on it, and are thrilled! As it turns out, I guess the Prius sold itself.

I get asked by coworkers nearly every week about the car. There appears to be a growing interest in the Prius.

I'm not quite sure how many of the new model I may have sold, 04 or 05.

Thing is, the photos from the NY Auto Show that john1701a has are mine (in one of the owner pages). I don't have a web site and have no interest in one, but wanted to make sure the photos made it out there.

I'm going to need to get photos of my 05 at some point, perhaps send them over at some point. But could use a better backdrop then my apartment complex. Perhaps back home in Somerset...

I did have conversations with my father about Prius, but he could not afford the wait since his Outback is on last gasps. Who knows, he may yet try to get one, or perhaps the Lexus (he needs SUV of some sort for utilitarian reasons, so I'm OK with that).

My wife was driving the Prius today, and when she was stopped at a light a guy in the car next to her motioned her to roll down her window.

When she did, he asked "Is that a Prius?" When my wife confirmed the fact, he asked "Is it true that it gets 60mpg?" She replied "Well, sometimes it gets 100mpg". To which he said "Wow! Smart purchase, indeed!"

I need to warn her about being overly enthusiastic :D Although, I suppose when it's coasting or in stealth mode, I guess she's right....

At certain times when the car coasts or when in stealth, your screen will say that you are getting 99.9 MPG and for that brief time you are.

If you take this fact to then suggest to a stranger that the Prius sometimes gets 100 MPG is deceptive and counterproductive.

Though literally true, it makes an implication that is not. We don't need to be deceptive to promote the Prius.

its true that a better response would have been her ltmpg or maybe her best tank.

but its also my opinion that no one else seems to be telling the "whole" truth about the gas mileage on any car. now i realize that that is no reason to mislead... but it sure seems to be a very popular reason nevertheless.

Technically, when in stealth mode you're getting infinity miles per gallon (x miles divided by zero gallons = infinity)....

Actually you are technically not using zero gallons in stealth mode unless you are coasting down a hill.

When you are in stealth mode you are borrowing gasoline from the future. (A lot like deficit spending.) The battery power you use has to be recharged by the gasoline engine. It is just happening later and not now.

Division by zero is undefined, not infinity.

Dave, How do you track 120 MPG when the display only reads to 99.9?

I bought the first one in Central OH back in 2000. Got to show it off a lot. My manager at work stopped in one day last spring asked me if I really liked it. She's driving an 05 today. :) I copied and bought a dupe of hers today.

A lot of people liked the Prius back in 2001 without the geek features. Shouldn't be hard to sell an 05 with the toys.

well lets take an example. say i start driving and i have 100 miles on the tank at 50 mpg. this means ive used about 2 gallons of gas.

i drive 20 miles and i now have 55 mpg for 120 miles on the tank. which means ive now used 2.182 gallons of gas which means i went 20 miles on .182 gallons of gas which equates to 110 mpg.

now the numbers i used are for examples only. other than a notation i made in a log, i didnt keep the exact numbers other than the best stretch of mileage i found with a quick scan was 120 mpg over a 22.7 miles stretch. also have had 4 other occasions (that were measured) that got over 100 mpg. obviously short stretches and some were not completely level (long stretches of flat roads not very common here) but the stretches were more than long enough to give you an idea of what the mileage can be with several ICE charge cycles involved.

the one stretch i measured was because of road construction and holiday traffic and speeds were varying bet 20-40 mph. i maintained the high numbers because i was lucky enough to not have to brake. there was several times that there was several car lengths of open road ahead of me but it was a two lanes (mostly) so anyone who didnt want to follow me could have gone around. but as slow as i was going, i never lost sight of a vehicle that was directly in front of me. when it turned off, it was only about 6-8 cars ahead of me.

If anyone bought a vehicle on the basis of what my wife shouted to them during a traffic jam I'd say they got what they deserved and would not consider that she was deceiving anyone. 8) But in this case a Prius might be better than anything that person might have possibly been considering.
